"Soul Kitchen" is a song by the Doors from their self-titled debut album The Doors. Singer Jim Morrison wrote the lyrics as a tribute to the soul food restaurant Olivia's in Venice Beach, California. Because he often stayed too late, the staff had to kick him out, thus the lines "let me sleep all night, in your soul kitchen".[4]
Despite the songwriting credit, its lyrics were written by Morrison during the summer of 1965.[8] Guitarist Robby Krieger acknowledged soul-singer James Brown's influence on the song, stating that he wanted to simulate a horn section by Brown, with the riff heard throughout.[9] Music journalist Stephen Davis characterized it as a hard rock track,[2] while Gillian G. Gaar called it "funky blues-rock".[1]
When Shirley was a child, Mama Frances started a catering service. Her food became so famous that patrons would pack her soul food dinners and holiday cakes in dry ice and fly them all over the country.
Lynne Rossetto Kasper: Vegan and soul food are about as unlikely a pairing as Cocoa Puffs and cognac, but food activist and eco-chef Bryant Terry takes it on in his new book, Vegan Soul Kitchen: Fresh, Healthy, And Creative African-American Cuisine. Bryant, deciding to become a vegan, where does that come from for you?
LRK: Interesting idea. You know, it's hard for me though, when I think of soul food, to imagine it without the deliciousness of that pork fat, the fat that cooked with the collards. I don't mean to stereotype it but ribs, you know, my mouth waters, fried chicken, that kind of thing. I understand that this idea of food with soul is a lot more complex, but how do you pull that off without using those products?

Michael's opened in late 2018 and in 2019 introduced a menu of classic southern and creole cuisines, including fried and barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese, gumbo and shrimp étouffée. Its soul food buffet took off in a setting of red, brass and cherry wood decor, cushy couches and a grand piano with live musical performances.
