1. Dhanurmasam (Dec 16, 2009 to Jan 13, 2010)

andal.jpgAbout 5000 years ago, Sri Goda Devi composed and sung Tiruppavai in 30 pasurams (verses) in Tamil. During the month of Margasirsh, Sri Goda Devi performed a Vratha by offering one Pasuram a day to Lord Krishna. At the end of that Vratha, she married Lord Ranganatha in Sri Rangam. Since then, it has become a custom for many devotees to perform the Dhanurmasa vratham by singing the Tiruppavai and offering one verse a day to Lord Krishna.

This year, the Dhanurmasa vratham starts on Dec 16th, 2009 at 9.27am. The first verse has to be offered after 9.27am on Wednesday Dec 16th. From Dec 17th, the puja is to be performed in the morning before Sunrise and then take prasadam. After Sunset, prasadam can be taken again.

Our Resident Acharya, Sriman Surendra Acharya will be guiding us during the puja, and also give the meanings of the Tiruppavai verse that evening at 9pm for half hour. Schedule is as follows:

Event Schedule:
