Dear PDNW members,
As you're probably aware we've had an uptick in criminal activity in our area of late as reported by local news outlets. Unfortunately, another incident occurred Monday night February 9th sometime between 6:30-9:00pm. A townhome along Calumet Avenue was burglarized. The
perpetrators gained access through the rear balcony door by climbing on a
garbage can. Fortunately, nobody was harmed nor any substantial damage done with only a few small items stolen including a safe.
CPD vigaorulsly investigated this incident and with the help of the victims providing thorough details/information along with a neighbor reporting suspicious individuals the next night roaming the alleys the offenders were apprehended. Some items were returned as well as the majority financials records in the safe retrieved from a nearby alley. All in all a pretty good outcome from an incident that is not only very scary but a violation of ones personal space.
Though this incident had a relatively good outcome we should not be complacent toward recent and future criminal activity. I encourage all area residents to be more alert of their surroundings, report
any suspicious activity, safeguard there homes and more proactively
engage with local authorities (CAPS), community groups and their
neighbors.
Feel free to comment or suggest any ideas you have that might help deter future crime. Thanks
Mark Kieras
