Hello Cyclists,
Filling out this 8-10min Active Transportation Survey is the most significant thing you can do in October to improve cycling in our community for the next 10 years. Trust me on this.
Just over 500 people in Champaign County have completed this survey in the last two months and I think 250 cyclists could fill this out in the next 24 hours. And that will send a strong message about how important it is to continue building out bike trails, protected bike lanes, safe routes to school for the school kids, and all the specific projects you are interested in, as well as making our community more walkable, because we are all pedestrians too.
This short survey will inform the work of the group creating the first draft of our new Champaign County Active Transportation Plan which will become the guiding document used to prioritize biking and waling projects in our county for the next decade.
It is a lot of quick checking boxes but also, you can submit your specific input. I encourage you to write a good paragraph of your thoughts and be as specific as you can - because your comments will be carefully read and your input recorded and counted.
- Specifically name problem intersections and anywhere you feel particularly unsafe as a cyclist or pedestrian.
- Specifically list the places of non-connectivity in our current bike network, for the routes you regularly ride.
- Mention your kid's challenges in riding a bike to schools or parks, or if they have a good, safe route to get to school or your close-by parks, mention that!
- And mention all that is good, and specifically list what you want to see more of - to make us a more walkable and bikeable community.
If you have 10 min now, please do it now, and then send this email on to two other cyclists you know. If you can't do it now, resend it to yourself so it's on the top of your inbox. Seriously. This survey closes at the end of the day tomorrow, October. 30 - so please do it the first chance you can.
Thanks! You are one of the 250!
