Can a managing director be appointed as an employee in another company?

Managing Director can not be appointed as an employee in other company as MD of any company has duty to look after the whole management of the company. So, if he is continuously performing the function at one company full time, how he can be employed at any other place. as you can not be present at two places at one time.
