Question about \clearpage in latex2pdf

\clearpage doesn't seem to do, in latex2pdf, what it used to do in
plain old latex --- it seems to have become a NOP. Do you know anything
about this or have a recommendation about what I should use instead?

what is latex2pdf? do you mean "pdflatex"? I assume so.

In which case \clearpage is totally unchanged. pdftex behaves
identically to TeX, for all practical purposes
