Does anyone still think the NZ Pirates can get even a single vote in
the upcoming general election for a narrow, ICT-only policy platform?

Yes. For the same reasons that Kim started his own party rather than just putting his support behind ours. The Internet Party doesn't go nearly as far as the Pirate Party on any of the issues that we have in common.

Not to say that we shouldn't have other policies. We should aim to have at least a general policy direction on every issue before we get to the election.

Yes, if you and I vote for PPNZ, that is two votes already! ;-) Even more than a single vote which you so doubt we can achieve :-P

Their manifesto is not yet out and they already have left us in the
dust. Education, jobs, surveillance, sovereignty to name a few things
that are beyond what we have.
Policy won't be decided by the membership so they get a minus in
democracy but then PPNZ is also lacking in that regard.

I would be surprised if PPNZ would get a manifesto together that could
match the Internet Party's ICT policies let alone anything else.

Challenge accepted. Will stay up late and condense all policy proposals I have made over the years.

Mathmo,

nor will you, neither will strypy or myself vote for PPNZ, as PPNZ will not be available as an option on any ballot in the country due to a membership < 500 which means: no registration. End of story for another three years.

Cheers,
Daniel

Might be good to just 'Pirate' some of their ideas and shadow them in case everything implodes, then you guys waltz in like a knight in shining armour for all of the supporters they have energised if/when they become toxic? Alliances still possible...

Just a thought,

you guys do realise that you can do electronic signups now right? Surely you can get 500 this way. If not you do need to reconsider existing. Like I've said many times ALCP is here to help, feel free to 'Pirate' our newly created electronic signup form, hell we even have 500 members we could encourage to sign your form...

We actually go further than most of their ideas, and we don't need the state sponsored digital currency.
I should have a newsletter finished by Monday, as all I need is a half page of manifesto.

Can anybody give us current numbers of people who have signed up at
my.pirateparty.org.nz so far?

Abe says that Electoral Commission is now accepting digital sign-ups.
If that's the case, we no longer need paper membership forms.

Abe, can you link us to a list of the EC's requirements for accepting
a digital sign-up as legit? That way we can see if there's anything we
need to add to my.pirateparty.org.nz. I'm guessing that the ability to
write a signature would be one thing.

Good question. Do we have agreed processes for how we process
memberships? If so, where are they documented?

ALCP officially launch their digital signup form tomorrow so you will see it promoted heavily on our website or facebook, I sent david peterson the pre release link a few days ago, it is constructed using webform module for drupal and the electoral commission rang this morning to say it is all legit. Feel free to 'pirate' anything you see. As an interesting side note, I'm assuming this new legal opinion means digital signatures are also acceptable for citizens initiated referenda applications. Hmmmm.....

I can confirm that the form works (from a person signing up point of
view). I used it a couple of days ago. I am surprised that the agency
accepts the funny scribble thingy diny that I left as my signature, but
it sure is an expression of my intend :-)

Cheers,
Daniel
