It feels a bit strange to be promoting a Mana event when I'm an
officer of the Pirate Party ;) However, I think it's really important
to mark October 15, and remember the dawn raids in the Urewera, and
around the country, for the anti-democratic 'shock and awe' exercise
they were. The Operation 8 documentary is a cutting expose of the
paranoid security apparatus that led to the raids, and is especially
relevant in the context of the GCSB and TICS Bills, and the massive
increase in the scope and powers they grant other tentacles of that
security apparatus. The first step to restoring real democracy is to
constantly remind ourselves that Key's New Zealand is not one, and
neither was Helen Clark's.

Anyway, probably the most important thing that we are pleased to
inform our members of a big fundraising event planned for October
15th.
The regular attendees at out branch meetings decided to host an event
to remember the 2007 state terror raids, raise some funds, and connect
with the members on this list, and the public as well.
We will screen the documentary Operation 8, have guest speakers to
help engage our membership, draw in new members, and educate the
public about this very important subject.
