Danyl Strype here, recently elected Communications Officer for the NZPP. I'm based in Ōtepoti/ Dunedin, and a friend of Abe Grey. I'm keen to get some local PP meetings happening, either monthly, or fortnightly. The new civil liberty activism HQ Abe and Julian from ALCP have set up in Caversham could be a meeting venue, but I'm happy to fit in with whatever works for others who want to come along.
I'm also really keen to get some activities going campus. I have been in touch with Joe from OGNA about putting on a series of film screenings at OUSA on the topical issue of surveillance. Hopefully through that we can build up some interest, and get enough people to form an OUSA affiliated club. My suggestion is to make it accessible to students regardless of their party political views by making it a chapter of Students for Free Culture, but if a clear majority of those doing the work would rather made it a chapter of the Young Pirates, that's your call. Ideally we could build up enough interest to create both!
In the meantime, perhaps we could start trying to meet up as part of existing geek social events like DunLUG and CodeCrafters?
