Dear all,

I finally got to create a web space for the group. Following up on the
meeting we had on Tuesday 17th here was what discussed:
- use Joomla! as a CMS and get joomla! Cambodia UG to help us (we had
one volunteer at that meeting - please email me)
- set up a planet (blog aggregation software) asap

The web site should be used to:
1. Let the "world" know we exist
2. Tell them when we meet and what we do
3. Be a channel for Linux, Open Source and Cambodia
4. Announce our meetings
5. Be in both Cambodan and English

Now I believe on the other action items we have:
- Find a Phnom Penh LUG logo that reflects our identity (brainstorming
will do fine, I can eventually find a graphic artist to try to make it
into an image)
- Identify a meeting place for monthly meetings that makes everyone
happy (tough one):
- cheap and conveniently placed for all participants
- has a quiet area where meeting can take place (avoid sharing space
with 'normal' customers)
- has projector, or projection area and eventually (free) wifi

I think those requirements come in order of priority, wifi being last
(we can all connect from home, having a discussion among people does not
warrant going online).

Last I will need everyone from the group who has a BLOG to send it to me
to be added to the planet together with their hackergotchi
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackergotchi). If you don't have one, just
send me a photo and I'll GIMP it for ya happily!

Thanks.

Comments and feedback welcome.

What about the "localized" Penguin which exists already here etc.:

and I caught it for an attachment here. Surely the creators would agree
if PP LUG wants to get and use it.

WOW.. sounds good to me! I suppose you're confirming it is ok for the
group to use it, if there is no objection that's what we'll do.

As you know I came to Phnom Penh while you were away (and Javier as
well). A real shame we couldn't meet.

Thank you for the logo, I'll add it to the pplug group for now and start
modifying the planet look & feel (it's the current default template). Is
there a bigger version by any chance?

Please contact Chantra (I copy him also) - somebody from the team made
it. I am sure they have a bigger/better version of the file - I just
"screenshot" it from the site.

Fun:

@ yesterday's beer-up (that's meet-up but with a beer in hands :D ) we said
it's time to get to Fred and...

Well, all done then! COOL! THANKS!

For now, the idea here is Viirak (boss) and Ratha (design) - I believe a lot
in ownership as a motivating tool.

We'd like to push 12rithy onto committing some original artwork for it too.

Other ideas we got was a Twit thingy that would show tweets from all
members...
I intend to fill some contents ASAP: resources, places, people.
Maybe some Reader of RSS feeds from interesting websites could be cool.

Yo people, who's got other suggestions?

Cheers
Jean-Philippe.

I added TIC rss feed to the planet, so anything you post on your
frontpage will now be readable there as well.

Still waiting for other PPLUG members BLOG address (and photos).

Glad to see the group getting organized. I still need to install Joomla!
on www.pplug.net , but if someone feels like it I can definitely send
over the credentials (hope to get it done before Sunday)

Hi Fred.

That's the full, whole point to me: Don't do it yourself! Please give the
access, (I suggest you send it privately to vii...@gmail.com) and lets get
people to play around.

Jean-Philippe.

Since I've been in bed all day sick (got a cold since I returned...) I
installed Joomla! already and added joomfish and the khmer language files.

I guess you might want to avoid posting email addresses in public lists
as they could be easy target for spammers.

I'll see what I do with the template and would be happy to get feedback
on colors for the site.

Current link is www.pplug.net/index.php

Hey!

Well if I don't do it myself why hasn't it be done before? Trust me, I
have a bit of experience with Open Source communities and you need to do
a lot yourself to get any project started.

So now the site is up, I'll need 3 or 4 images (600x80 pixels) related
to Phnom Penh to put in the header. If someone has some nice photos they
took themselves (and are willing to share with the group) or know of
creative commons work we could use, please let me know.

Chantra's blog seems down. I actually was under the impression that a
lot more people had blogs from the last meeting...

Fred
ps: I am thinking to add the wat phnom behind the penguin to make it
more "Phnom Penh" related. What do you think?

Sorry V. - I'm usually over-cautious with that.

Sure it will be helpful! Can you send it of the list please?

Also what about your BLOG? I can't seem to access it anymore.

Thanks.
