Dear all,

We met mid september for SFD with Niptict to discuss about SFD and
decided to organize it on November 26th as we only had 10 days at the
time of the meeting, and quite a lot of holidays in between (Pchum bun,
water festival, etc). Initial date was November 5th but again there is
Barcamp/fudcon so...

We now have a month ++ to get the event running, and it'll happen once
students are back.

Initial plan is to run at the same location as we have over the past 2
years, and have it running for the afternoon.

Last year agenda is here for reference
http://wiki.softwarefreedomday.org/2015/Cambodia/Phnom%20Penh/SFD

So we need to eventually pick a theme and get speakers. If anyone has
any suggestion you are welcome to share.

Thank you.

Hi!

Follow up on the topic we're 10 days away from the event and here is the
status. We'll be running the event most likely in the new NIPTICT campus
after the Japanese bridge YEAH! \o/

We have a few confirmed speaker who are:
- Sok Leap will talk about Linux (I don't have more details yet)
- Vannkorn will talk about Wordpress
- Myself will talk about GTD (as in Getting Things Done) and TiddlyWiki

In the pending speakers we 3/4 more pending including Sirko and Fred
Heise (who presented FOSS and drones last year).

If anyone feels interested to present anything related to Free and Open
Source Software please either reply to this email or contact me
directly. Don't be shy! ;-)

Likewise if Sirko or other Fedora Ambassadors want to have a booth/table
please let us know. Same for the local Ubuntu community.

Fedora 25 should be released in the coming days so maybe we can also
have a release party that day?

Well the sky is the limit, isn't it?

Thank you.

Hi,

well, the event isnt that big that a booth would be necessary, to make it a Fedora Release Party is possible so a talk about the features of F25 should be in, there coming some interesting changes like:

Wayland as default xserver
native MP3 support as it is not longer patented
IBUS emoji typing is also a nice feature
the Media Writer is complete redesigned

next to the more developer oriented features, with all the updates like RoR 5.0, PHP 7.0, Perl 5.24, Jekyll, Node.js 6.x, Erlang 19, Golang 1.7 comes also the new interesting Rust language with his compiler.

Budgetwise, its a bit more complicated this year I had to cut back in July at FAD the budget for SFD events completely, it would not work anyway as we are in another quarter and for Release Parties we had to make a cut down to 500$ means in maximum there are only 50$ for an event left.

F25 media will be not available as they are produced in India and reach Cambodia via RH Singapore office and they are not in production yet, have some F24 left over but thats it.

If you want a talk about F25 you should tell me soon, as I have to prepare it, I was busy with other things this cycle and did only the minimal tasks I had to do for F25

br gnokii

Thank you.

Fred

Google Maps still points to the old campus, could you post a
link to the new location?

I should be there, if you need another speaker, I'll see
what I can put together.

Yes I know. I still don't have 100% confirmation of the information but
it seems to be where we're heading.

What would you like to present then?

Thank you.

Hi!

Well thank you for the detailed answer. You know I'm a GNOME and Fedora
user so I would never miss an opportunity to shamelessly promote them ;-)

Missing the DVD's might be a problem if we have a lot of people. At the
same time they can also just download the ISO and burn it to a USB stick
if they really want to install it. From the last InstallFest we did it
didn't seem people were so much into Fedora though :-/ but showcasing
the great new features, GNOME and more is surely a great way to
encourage people to take a first step at trying Fedora.

Now I don't want to give you extra load of work and force something that
maybe only you and me are interested in ;-)

I also remember the Fedora community had a few key members in Phnom Penh
so maybe we can just run something informal just to hang out together,
either during SFD or at another time. Did FUDCON generate new Fedora
users? Maybe that also could be a good follow event for them (either SFD
or the release party)?

Well I prefer to let you decide what to do as running FUDCON was
probably intense and you have a better idea of the local Fedora community.

Thank you.

Good afternoon!

So SFD will be on this coming Saturday and we would like to be able to
confirm all the speakers by this evening so we can publish the schedule
tomorrow. I was particularly thinking of Sirko and Brad.

The location is at the new NIPTICT campus and I have updated the SFD map
too. OSM is not very detailed in that area so here is the Google map
link with satellite view
https://www.google.com.kh/maps/@11.6540515,104.9125455,845m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

Thanks a lot to everyone and hopefully see you all on Saturday.

Hi!

Due to scheduling issues at NIPTICT campus we are moving SFD to 7th Dec
1pm-6pm.

So same same but a bit later.

Thank you.
