Hi, my name is KyungHyun, I am graduated school student.

Recently, during install pplacer program, I have some problem.

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/setuptools/dist.py:294: UserWarning: The version specified ('unknown') is an invalid version, this may not work as expected with newer versions of setuptools, pip, and PyPI. Please see PEP 440 for more details.
  "details." % self.metadata.version

.....

Installed /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pplacer_scripts-unknown-py2.7.egg
Processing dependencies for pplacer-scripts===unknown
Finished processing dependencies for pplacer-scripts===unknown

This message is presented in the terminal, and than I type $pplacer but pplacer was not installed

what can I do to solve this problem?

Hello KyungHyun--

This problem comes from newer versions of Python's setuptools. We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it.

Thank you,

Erick

Dear KyungHyun,

I’m assuming that you are trying to install the pplacer binaries? Note
that ’scripts/setup.py’ only installs the python scripts that are
distributed with pplacer - to “install" the pplacer, guppy, and rppr
binaries, you can just move them someplace on your $PATH, or invoke
them using the absolute path of wherever they are in your file system.

If you can point me to the instructions that you are following,
perhaps we can clarify them.

(Erick, come to think of it, maybe it’s not a bad idea to hijack
setup.py to install the binaries as well...)

Also note that the message you are seeing is just a warning that the
python installer does not like the format of the version number - the
python scripts should still be installed.

Best,
Noah

Thank you for your kindness reply.
However, I am not bioinformatic expert and I don't know linux system, so, I ask to explain detail and easily.

I am looking forward to your reply.

Thank you.

Dear KyungHyun--

I'm afraid that pplacer and its associated scripts are meant for bioinformaticians with linux knowledge. Noah made a complete explanation for someone with the appropriate background, so I suggest that you keep learning or find someone to help you with the basics.
