Hello,

Just curious if there are precompiled binaries for MacOS X somewhere. It looks like they are sited here (photo attached), but I'm not seeing them for the latest version. I could be missing something obvious, so thought I would send an email and ask.

Thank you,
Holly

Hello Holly--

There aren't for the very latest version, but take a look at the differences in the last several releases (rather minor) and see if those make any difference for you.

Greetings!

I would also like to run pplacer on MacOS! I certainly wouldn't mind using an older version... but I've been poking around on the website and on github and I just haven't been able to find the binaries for MacOS (for any version of pplacer) anywhere. Would you mind pointing me to their location, please?

Many thanks,
jessica

They are on the releases page.

Here's the last one that had OS X binaries: https://github.com/matsen/pplacer/releases/tag/v1.1.alpha17

One source of confusion is that Darwin = OS X for these purposes.

Hi,

I'm using OSX (High Sierra) and am attempting to use the compiled binaries from the link you provided Jessica. Unfortunately, I keep getting this error:

> pplacer
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libgsl.0.dylib
  Referenced from: /Users/johannaholm/Downloads/./pplacer/pplacer
  Reason: image not found
Abort trap: 6

I tried
> brew reinstall gsl

But this did not resolve the problem (same error as initial pplacer attempt). Is this an incompatibility of OSX pplacer w/the current version of gsl?

Any suggestions for getting this to work (i.e. maybe a downgrade of gsl... though I'm concerned this will cause incompatibilities w/other programs).

Thanks,
~Johanna

Yes, I'm pretty sure that pplacer uses GSL v1.

Hi Erick and Johanna,

I've run into the same problem.

Johanna - it is possible to download a previous version of GSL (1.16 - https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gsl/) which can then be compiled and installed, which pplacer will then take advantage of.

Erick - I was wondering if it's possible to direct pplacer (and guppy and rppr) to use GSL within a conda environment? I have created an environment where I've installed all dependencies including GSL 1.16, added them to my path, however, pplacer still directs to GSL (libgsl.0.dylib) within /usr. Is there any way to redirect where pplacer looks for GSL?

If not I am fine with installing GSL 1.16 outside of the virtual environment. Thank you in advance for any information.

Hi Chris--

Thanks for coming up with a well-informed question.

Are you on OS X or Linux?

Thanks,

Erick

Hi Erick,

Thank you for the reply. My apologies for leaving out the most important piece of information!

OS: macOS Mojave 10.14
pplacer: v1.1alpha17 (Darwin)

Thanks,
Chris

Chris--

I don't run OS X, but there appears to be a install_name_tool for doing this sort of thing.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks,

Erici
