Computational Properties of Basal Ganglia Neurons
4-6 December, 2017
The Leslie and Susan Gonda Brain Research Center, Bar-Ilan University
The basal ganglia play a key role in normal behavior and multiple pathologies such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, Tourette syndrome and others. There is a growing interest in the impact of intrinsic properties of basal ganglia neurons on the computational transformation of information of sub-cellular compartments, single neurons, and neuronal networks. The major difficulty in assessing the contribution of intrinsic neuronal properties to computation is the need to safely transverse several levels of neuronal computation without losing key properties of the system. The workshop aims to bring together a multidisciplinary group of experimental and theoretical neuroscientists for a series of lectures and discussions focusing on the computational properties of basal ganglia neurons. Furthermore, the workshop aims to link the basic properties of the neuronal elements of the basal ganglia with the behavioral and clinical outcome of both normal and pathological computation.

Topics include (but are not limited to) all areas (and surroundings) of cognitive science: for example, developmental cognition and education, language, memory, perception, psychometrics, anthropology, economics and social sciences, neuroscience, clinical psychology, animal cognition, etc.
New this year:
1) HOT TOPIC: REPLICATION CRISIS IN COGNITIVE SCIENCES
This year we will host an invited talk by Rolf Zwaan (Professor of Biological and Cognitive Psychology at the Institute of Psychology of Erasmus University Rotterdam) on “Making Replication Mainstream”.

Graduate Student, Tel-Aviv University
The High-Level Cognition lab (Dr. Liad Mudrik) is
seeking highly motivated graduate students to lead our research of perception
and high-level cognition. We focus on three main phenomena: semantic
integration, conscious awareness, and cognitive effects on perception. More
specifically, we ask what enables the process of judging the relations between
two objects or concepts, what are the functions of consciousness and what are
its neural substrates, and what are the relations between semantic knowledge
and perception. To tackle these questions, we use behavioral studies and
electrophysiology (EEG and intracranial recordings). Enthusiastic candidates
with excellent collaboration skills and backgrounds in Psychology, Neuroscience
or Computer Sciences are welcome to contact Dr. Liad Mudrik at mudr...@tau.ac.il. Please attach a CV.
PhD Fellowships in the International Max Planck Research School for Language Sciences

models of learning. Populations of interest include typically developing children
and adults, children with learning disabilities, and individuals with autism.
The successful candidate will develop a vigorous research program that
contributes to, and complements, ongoing research studies of typical and
atypical neurocognitive development. The candidate will have access to
state-of-the-art brain imaging facilities and computational resources at
Stanford University. Candidates must have a PhD and research experience in
cognitive neuroscience, brain development, cognitive science, psychology,
computational neuroscience, or related fields. Strong computational skills
