A UK council is
considering an odd way to solve the problem of people urinating in their
streets -
wheelie
bins with built-in urinals.
Council bosses in Eastleigh
are said to be exploring the possibility of using "wee-lie bins" after
noticing how many people on a night out will pee in alleyways or shop
doorways.
Over the past year, 42 people have been prosecuted
for urinating on the streets in Eastleigh, Hampshire, and police say it
has become a major problem for the area.
But now councillors
think they could have a solution... the wee-lie bin. The £80 device is
essentially a traditional wheelie bin with a funnel on the rear for men
to use as a public urinal.
There is even a bright blue and
white logo - normally seen on the door of the gents - to help blokes
staggering home after a night out, identify exactly where to pee.
Designer Stephan Bischof says that the funnel directs any urine to a
tray in the base, where it is converted into bio-fertiliser. He adds
this can then be emptied into a garden every two weeks and used as
compost.
Dee Buffone, Eastleigh town centre partnership
chairman, told the Daily Mail: "It is a superb idea and I hope it is
brought in. I just hope people use them."
Yeah, and we just
hope drunks are able to distinguish between the wee-lie bind and our
wheelie bin.
