Eduardo.
Dear Pirate Party officials,
As this notice may require some background information I would like to
point towards the latest PPI Coreteam meeting minutes that can be
found on the PPI wiki (currently hosted on PiratenPartei.de) here:
http://int.piratenpartei.de/coreteam
Note: In time this wiki will be migrated to the pp-international.net
domain.
If you would like to receive this email in a different language,
please reply stating so and we will do our best to arrange that.
==Congress/Conference finances and date planning==
As some among you might have noticed through various communication
media, PPI is currently talking with the Swedish MEP's offices in
Brussels. Our treasurer and MEP's office contact are now looking into
getting finances from the EU. This would add an substantial amount of
monetary funds into the PPI treasury for organising the forthcoming
congress/conference. However, this does require us to postpone the
date already set. Considering the fact that some pirate parties such
as the Spanish and the Swiss pirate party are strongly against PPI
receiving monetary funds from anonymous donors, we have few choices
but to accept the MEP's generous offering and postpone the conference
to a later date. A requirement for being eligible for receiving the
funds, is postponing the conference to March/April.
- Please tell us your preferred exact date ASAP!
We intended to make the decision on cancelling the February date or
not by next week.
==Refunding already ordered tickets==
Both PPI and the MEP offices are aware of the fact that some delegates
have already booked tickets for their transportation. Due to details
with how we plan to gather funds, we might be able to refund tickets
that have already been booked. PPI takes full responsibility for this
situation, an will not rest until this matter is resolved. To those
who have not informed us that they have already booked tickets;
- Inform us now! It is your last chance.
==Planning the congress/conference.==
Organising a congress without knowing all the details is a tough job.
The PPI Coreteam is organising this for you, but needs your help on
gathering the details. We prefer to see at least 2 delegates from each
pirate party, for obvious reasons and are fully aware of the fact that
most pirate parties can't afford this. Therefore, we would like to
know how many delegates your party wants to send and/or is going to
send. Including the expected travelling and accommodation costs.
Please inform the PPI Coreteam as soon as possible, if you have not
done so already! As discussed before, the forthcoming PPI conference
will be the first one where generic party members are going to be
invited explicitly. We need to know which country allows his members
to attend, and what country does not allow them to attend and if all
or some are allowed, how many it will be. Seats will be limited, and
we might have to set a maximum number of attendees.
==PPI Board of Directors & Statutes.==
Since PPI is formally found, it needs to be democratised as soon as
possible. The PPI congress will take place during the PPI conference.
To date we still have not received candidates for PPI director
functions, nor the presidency. Please ask among your members and note
that even if they are not interested in national officer functions,
they might be in international ones. We need candidates as soon as
possible in order to have a successful conference! In October, the PPI
Coreteam did some .be law hacking for the formal founding. This does
not mean that there is no need for statutes. Especially not when
considering the need for consolidation among a growing number of
pirate parties with different stances on different topics. Based on
the work in progress manifesto as seen on the wiki sets of PPI
statutes can be written. Note that the current work in progress says:
!!! Write down what we all agree on, and leave out _all_ the rest !!!
The PPI coreteam needs help with constructing several statutes, so
that they can be ratified during the congress. Since we are not
lawyers and as most of us are European we will need a lot of help! If
you know anyone who could help with this task, please let us know!
Note that these people don't even have to be pirate party members!
Lawyers at friendly NGO's could help out just as well.
==Finishing note==
So far the PPI Coreteam has received help from individuals from a
large number of countries and formal support from, for example, the
German pirate party board. We are grateful for this positive and
constructive stance towards achieving our targets. It is critical for
achieving our goals to receive criticism. We have received a lot of
this as well, however, not all has been particularly constructive.
The PPI Coreteam hopes to receive more help and support throughout the
new year. If not only because we hope to see pragmatic and successful
pirates.
Yours sincerely,
The PPI Coreteam
Signed,
Presidents: Patrick & Samir
