Dance and Dine with PRUSA

Friday 11/16, 7:30-10:30PM

PPA will be collaborating with Puerto Rican Undergraduate Association (PRUSA) for a night of food and dancing from both cultures. It should be a fun time and there will be food, so why wouldn’t you go?

 

PPA/FISDU Thanksgiving Potluck

Saturday 11/17, 5PM-7PM

Radian 11th Floor Lounge

Put your eating pants on because it’s time for PPA and FISDU’s Thanksgiving potluck! We had so much food and so much fun last year that we decided to do it again. This event is also a great time to bond with your class. Here’s how it works. Each class is responsible for bringing certain elements of the meal: FRESHMEN: dessert, SOPHOMORES: bread/salad, JUNIORS: side dishes, SENIORS: main course. FISDU members will also be bringing food. A representative from each class will contact you soon with more details!

 

Processed Foods Night with Penn Hawai’i Club

Friday 11/30, 7-9PM

Ronald’s House (4030 Spruce)

Keep your eating pants on for Processed Foods Night, an artery clogging event with Penn Hawai’i! There will be spam, corned beef, vienna sausages, rice, and spam musubi! ALRIGHT NICE.

Also see the constitution which is attached for a description of the positions. You may nominate someone or yourself for any position. Keep in mind that nominations for president must have served at least one term on PPA board or other minority organization board. Nominations are due on December 1 at 11:59PM.

The Asian Pacific Student Coalition is the umbrella group for 19 Asian-interest student groups on campus. It is our aim to voice and support the common interests and concerns of the Asian Pacific-Islander community; to provide a forum for discussion, action, and exploration of issues of concern to students; and to present and to celebrate the richness of our diverse Asian Pacific cultures and backgrounds to the University community and beyond.

 

We will be holding our elections on November 28 at 7pm. If you are interested in running for a position on the Executive Board, please come to our interest meeting on Wednesday, November 14 at 8pm in Rodin Study Room 104 (1st floor in the Computer Lab). Attached is the most recent version of our constitution as well as the application for running. The position descriptions are included in the constitution.

Set in the heart of Beijing, Suits to Roots will bring you on a journey of love, greed, and revelations. Will Chen is a suave and undaunted Chinese-American lawyer from the American law firm Pearson LLP. With the help of a dysfunctional trio known as Wu, Tang, Chan, he is sent to Beijing to tear down old hutongs and build in its place a swanky new mall. But not everything goes as expected, as he works on the case, he confronts a stubborn conservative girl, encounters a meddling ghost, and struggles to appease his boss halfway around the world. Can Will pursue his career while finding his roots?

UMC Unity Month

Join the United Minorities Council (UMC) and our 25 constituent groups in celebrating our first Unity Month. Five events. One Month. To educate, promote, and celebrate the diversity and interculturalism within our community. REMOVING THE RACE BOX FROM THE APPLICATION: Affirmative Action, the Supreme Court, and You

Join us for a critical conversation on the past, present, and future of affirmative action in higher education. Participants include Natalie Herring, Associate Dean of Opportunity and Access at Penn Admissions, and Charles Noble, Research Associate at the Kirwan Institute (working directly on the Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin Supreme Court case). Brian Peterson, Makuu Black Cultural Center Director, will moderate. PENN MEETS PHILLY: A celebration that seeks to foster interculturalim and community. The celebration will include performances by three local artists as well as performances by student groups. There will be tons of food and many booths to visit!

ONE MIC: UMC, Penn Monologues and the Race Dialogue Project are collaborating to present to you On Mic, an open-mic night focusing on race, culture, and identity!    This can be anything: poetry, prose, song, sketch. Your stage, your story. No "experience" necessary-- this is a safe space for you. Sign up for a slot by November 11th!

Are you a freshman, sophomore, or junior interested in gaining advice or mentorship from upperclassmen in Penn's Asian Pacific American community? Sign up now to grab lunch with asenior to talk about anything from registering for classes to managing your organizations to transitioning to college and everything and anything in between.
