PPA EVENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:

October GBM

Monday 10/15, 8PM

Huntsman, Room TBA

Come hang out with PPA at the October GBM! We’ll have fun stuff to celebrate Filipino Heritage month (which is October, in case you didn’t know) and we’ll also be holding Freshman Liaison elections! Snacks and drinks will be provided, as per usual.

Line Dance-athon for Flood Relief

Thursday 10/18, 7-9PM

Hall of Flags, Houston Hall

October is Filipino Heritage Month and what better way to celebrate than to attend an event which combines the things we love for a good cause? The Penn Philippine Association will be hosting a line dance-athon in collaboration with area Filipino organizations – perfect timing because it’s right after midterms!  Come dance, eat, and have a good time with us. Proceeds will benefit the Philippine Red Cross to support relief efforts in light of the flooding in August.

PPS Banquet

Friday 10/26, time TBA

Bodek Lounge, Houston Hall

PPA is collaborating with Penn Pakistan Society for a banquet. There will be free food as well as performances and displays showcasing our cultures (board members will be performing tinikling and bangko!). This event is open to everyone and it is a great way to meet new people and learn more about other cultures. we hope that you can make it!

Halo Halloween

Saturday 10/27, 7-9PM

Ronald’s House (4030 Spruce)

Come eat Halo-Halo with PPA! Enjoy these frosty treats with current members of PPA as well as the awesome alumni who will also be stopping by.

Questionnaire for Littles

Are you a newcomer to PPA? Please fill out this questionnaire so we can pair you up with an Ate (“big sister”) or Kuya (“big brother”).

Freshman Liaison Nominations

We mentioned an application during the GBM, but we lied (oops). Actually all you need to do is nominate yourself! Send your nominations to ppab...@gmail.com. You can also nominate your friends who you think would be good candidates. Remember, the freshman liaison’s duties include planning events for freshmen and encouraging freshmen to come out to PPA events. It’s a great way to get involved with PPA. If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jill Santos, the current freshman liaison, at sant...@nursing.upenn.edu. Nominations are due by October 8th (note date change). Candidates will be notified by October 9th and have until October 14th to accept.

Teach for the Philippines

This is an announcement from Evan Chen, a PPA Alum: I'm not sure if you guys have heard about it but the "Teach for..." model has recently set-up shop in the Philippines. The Teach for the Philippines team is starting to recruit in local schools and even in US schools. The program is part of the Teach for All network and  the organization plans to have their first cohort of 50 teachers this 2013. I'm writing to you to ask if you can spread the word in PPA if any seniors would consider this as an option after graduation. Here's an article about them:   To apply, please contact Angela and Michael directly at ang...@teachforthephilippines.org and mic...@teachforthephilippines.org. I heard applications should be up online by the end of this month. Here's their website.
