Awkward Leads

Hey I'm trying to transcribe a song with a part that has a lead with a
different number of measures as the rhythm part. I can't seem to get
it so the top staff is different from the bottom connected staff. Is
there a way to do this?

If that explanation was unclear then this is what I mean.

i guess you could either put rests in between the measures of the rhythm or you could put the rhythm in the bass staff.

i think this could help you fix the problem.
