Hi, I'm new to this software. I downloaded a tab that is in some
strange tuning, and want to convert it to standard tuning (E A D G B
E). Does power tab have a tool for that? I can't find anything on the
web.

Dean,
Use in the menu-bar the setup instrument (Guitar>Setup).
Check in that 'guitar property sheet' the section tuning and adjust what you ask in there.
While you are in that section, have a look on  those other functions in that window.
Guitar setup is the first thing to do when you start 'tabbing', You can't use it without having an instrument running in the MIDI, right?.
The guitar-icon adds more instruments = more scores.
When your PTE starts EADGBE is set to standard tunning, can be changed maunal or like when you add other tabs with another tuning.
Are you sure the tab loading needs to be in EADGBE?

Changing the tuning in that dialog seems to change the resulting notes
shown above, not the finger positions in the tab. What I want to do is
change the tab to standard tuning so I can learn to play it without
having to mess with my guitar's tuning.

This can't be done within the program. The only way is to export the
song as a MIDI file, then import the MIDI back into Power Tab.
