How to tie across a bar

I want a certain note to be able to hold across a bar (for 2 measures)
without stroking it again, but I can't figure out how. The "tie"
button becomes unpressable when I select two notes in different
measures....
Please help me with this problem. Thank you

Position the cursor on the 2nd note and type y.
