Printer memory issues/set dpi?

Hi one and all

I have a datawindow with some intense data. When sent to any printer
of type desk-jet/ink-jet the print-out is garbled. I found that
setting the dpi to 300 from 600 dpi the problem goes away. I suspect
that the memory required to print the report is to intense because the
laser printers seem to be fine. The users in question suffer from
techno-phobia and so training them to set the printer settings all the
time is out of the question. How can I set the dpi to 300 and restore
them to 600 dpi. The other solution is to print via some sort of
spool etc. Have you any idea's how a generic function of sorts can be
written. The end printers can be of any type although the most common
brand is HP.
