GPF when searching datawindow in Workspace

Has anyone come across the following:
When using the search utility on a datawindow in the Workspace or the
Library painter and searching for any string PB either GPF's or dumps
out a load of 'junk' as well as the search result in the Output pane.
In reference to the junk I refer to something along the lines of
???????<?<?<?<?<?<||||||||||. And the search dumps out a number of
lines.
The interesting thing is that this would only happen in one of our
applications. We could quite happily do a search in other apps (dw's
or whatever)with no problems. Then I decided to add a target to the
'affected' app and do a search on a datawindow and now this
application is affected. This leads me to believe that maybe a
registry entry has been corrupted.
The long and short of it is that we are unable to do a global string
search as this will always result in a GPF. Searching other objects
(not dw's) works ok.
Any help appreciated.
I'm using PB8.03 Build 9704.
