It's official now -- as of September 30, 2001, support for PowerBuilder 6.5
was discontinued. Upgrade to PowerBuilder 8.0 Now!

Just an FYI.

Hi,

I posted a question concerning sum() for composite datawindows. This post
seems to be removed from the newsgroup. May this belong to the version of PB
which I posted I was working with (PB6.51) ?

As far as this is a user to user group it shouldn't be of any interest which
version I use. Also posts belonging to PB5 or PB6 can be of interest for
other users.

Messages are never removed unless they are clear case of e.g. spam, porn
etc.
If you posted a message about 1 to 2 weeks ago, it might have disappeared
due to the problems with the news server. It definitely would not have been
removed intentionally.
We try to answer all questions, regardless of PB version. Roy is just
pointing out that official Sybase support for PB6.5 is gone, .i.e. no sense
in opening a case with Tech support, since they will not bring out any EBFs
anymore for 6.5.

The purpose of the post was to make people aware that paid support from
Sybase for PB 6.5 is no longer available. These newsgroups are user-based,
and thus, you can post questions related to any version of PB, even 3.0
(although I doubt you'll get too many responses<g>)

You're entirely right. It shouldn't and doesn't matter. In fact, PB4 questions
still appear here (I wouldn't say that the group that hang out here are a
*burgeoning* repository of current PB4 knowledge and experience, but the
questions get asked <g>). What may be in play is a problem Sybase had with the
server hosting the newsgroups. For about a week, things were quite rough. What
may have happened:

- message was posted when the server was down and the error message got missed
(that almost happened to me a couple of times with the PFC Guide interface, that
doesn't get the error messages "in your face")

- the message got lost during a crash/reload cycle (I believe this shouldn't be
a problem from what I've heard, but you never know...)

- your newsreader isn't picking the message up off the server, because of the
change in the status because of the reloading (some people have had success
unsubscribing and resubscribing to groups; with Agent I did an Online sampling
of the "last 500 messages" to bring my settings up to speed)

By all means, if you can't find the message (and you've given sufficient time
for a response... some people have problems with newsreader settings and don't
see their own messages... so they post 10 times and I have to delete the
duplicates so others do have to download them all!), by all means, repost! (Just
please don't do it 10 times in 15 minutes. <G>)

Thank you for your answers.
I'm glad to hear this. I'm going to check my newsreader. Unfortunately I
have to use outlook express when I'm at work. I experienced that Netscapes
messenger is slower but not so beasty in configurations.
