I have a composite dw stuck into a trailer band. It must be autosizeable
so I can see all the rows it gets but even I assigned this dw as
Autosize Height I can only see the rows that its natural height permits.
Thanks in advance,
Ivan González
I have a similar problem in the in the header band.
I have three datawindows in the composite, one below the other in the header
band, and one datawindow in the detail band, then some text in the footer.
Sometimes the 2nd or 3rd datawindow in the header is empty.
I'd like to be able to print the composite without big empty holes in it,
but even with slide all above and autosize height, I cannot get this to
work. As you pointed out, setting the height to a sliver truncates the
data. I've even tried changing the properties to invisible in the script,
but no luck.
Hope someone can help us out here.

The only band on a datawindow that auto sizes is the detail band. In other
words, the header, footer, summary bands are all fixed in size. It doesn't
matter what you put in those bands, the size of these bands will always
remain the same. These bands won't change in size even if they include
nested datawindows where the detail band of the nested datawindow is set to
auto-size.

I did what you told me but now I put the report dw in the detail band and it is
retrieved after each row of the detail's base dw, so I get repeated nested
reports. What could I do ?
Thanks,
Ivan Gonzalez
As Ron said, autosize won't work on the headers or trailers, and as you
discovered, if you put the nested report in the detail band it repeats.
Ron did not offer a solution (I'm sure he would have if
he had one.)
Still open to suggestions, but I doubt we'll hear anymore. We're kinda
SOL.

There are solutions to this problem, but I did not offer any because, IMO,
there is no solution that could possibly satisfy every situation. As a
matter of fact, I honestly believe that this is one of those 'problems'
where there are as many solutions as there are problems. Each situation is
unique and requires a custom solution. Any solution that I would have
proposed would have been immediately followed by a flurry of
questions/responses like:
"I tried your idea, but it didn't work because..."
"I've got this special situation where the users want..."
"Well, what if you've got such-and-such situation..."
Let me state for the record that I am 100% in favor of using this forum for
asking questions and presenting solutions. However, I also believe very
strongly in the adage:
"Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll
eat for a lifetime."
In other words...
"Give a programmer a solution, and he'll still have a problem. Teach a
programmer how to solve problems, and he will prosper."
