Hi all,

Recently I was accepted to the Renaissance Philanthropy Big If True Science (BITS) Accelerator fellowship. I'm framing a DARPA-like program concept that I think you all might have some unique perspective on the state of the art and problem space for a useful discussion.

In brief, I'm interested in new types of materials and structures to prevent catastrophic damage to space infrastructure. I'm interested in your alls perspective on the risks and opportunities for new types of (passive) protective measures. I figured that new types of protection would create economic benefits for service life and insurability of assets, but I'd like to test that hypothesis against your expertise.

Part of where I'm coming from and setting my assumptions is in using in-space manufacturing to formulate porous structures as velocity attenuators for orbital debris. I'm especially interested in conversations with those who have experience in hypervelocity research, space protective measures, and those that know economic models that might inform TEA/LCA analyses for capital space projects (foundries, bio-manufacturing plants, orbital datacenters, etc.)

Who are the folks I should be talking to? Who should I set up informational interviews with - and are you interested in doing so sometime soon?
Thanks!
Joe
