Im here from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, we just got ourselves a real deal, full sized, no longer mini makerfaire this year.

Have the rules for 2018 been finalized yet? How can I find them?

Thanks
Scott

The rules will be out January. They are 98% last year's rules.

Where can we access them? Everything I've found seems to be outdated.

As mentioned before they are 98% 2017 rules, here are the big bullet points:

  •  Enduro is now 90min instead of 75
  •  BOM only counts parts that make you go faster (yes your frame and your seat and your steering help you go faster)
  •  Mark your car's lift points clearly or if it's too heavy mark it "HEAVY- DO NOT LIFT"

Do you have any specific questions I can answer?

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm only fourteen right now but I plan to compete once I'm old enough. I don't really have any questions right now, aside from what you would suggest as a good getting-started point.  Do you know of any good builds or build guides?  Thanks again.

Glad to hear you're interested!  Our wiki is a good source for some information about certain builds.  Will you be attending any makers Faires where we typically hold races?

For sure! I visit the World Maker Faire (New York) every year, since I live in Manhattan. I checked out the wiki - it seems like a great place to start, but I'll definitely let you know if I have any more questions. Thanks!

You should volunteer to be a track marshal this year and get the best seat in the house (outside of driving)

I was considering it. Do you know how old you have to be and where you can sign up, outside of being on a team?

There have been 15 year olds doing it at the Atlanta race. I seem to remember a middle school student to but I can't be sure.

Do you know if they were part of a team/group or had just volunteered on their own?

The 15 (maybe 14) year old was on my team. We were a high school robotics team competing at the event. I believe the younger kids was the soon of a spectator who also volunteered to be a track marshall.

You'll need a parent/guardian to sign a waiver form, but I'm guessing that volunteers would be welcome.

(Jim & Patrick would have the final word in NY though.)

Sounds good.  I'm in touch with Jim so I'll definitely ask him about volunteering.  I'll post on here when I get a response if anyone's interested.
