Unfortunately, PPPRS doesn't have it in our budget this year to add another race, but we can send you in the right direction if you want to organize an exhibition. You can expect a race weekend to cost between $5,000 and $7,000, which includes renting the parking lot, renting tires/orange barriers (tires are cheaper), getting a sound system, getting the flags, making banners, water and ice, etc. It's a top-down endeavor. Your first step should be to gauge interest among your local hackerspace(s). Give them a run down of the rules and the cost they can expect to incur. A good exhibition will have between four and eight cars. If you have the interest, the next step is to approach the maker faire organizers. See if they are interested in hosting and if they will absorb some (or ideally all) of the cost. If you can get them on board, too, let us know and we'll send you a sort of "how to make a race" kit to guide you through the process.
Alternatively, you could gauge the interest of your potential teams slash maker faire organizers for a race next year - May would fit in nicely with the West Division and we'd love to beef that side up. At any rate, let us know if you want to spearhead a Denver-area race and we'll see how we can make it work for the 2015 season!
Thanks,
Kristan, your friendly neighborhood PPPRS PR Rep
Hi. Please note that exhibition races are much cheaper than a full fledged race. The cost for up to four cars is around 1000 total.
