Hey folks,

Checking in from PPPRS locale #2 here in Milwaukee, WI. Race day 1 is not quite over as we are doing a night race at 9pm. Due to technical difficulties, the night race will count as our moxie round. Here is the sheet with the totals after the first two sprints. Notice anything about the significance of moxie this year?

Does this sheet have the final results now?
I'm a bit surprised that Phantom ICT got zero moxie board points for the Enduro. I'm pretty sure I saw someone press the button. :-)
Maybe check all those connections at some point. :-)

I had a great weekend, and enjoyed tremendously driving behind the Weiner!

I have butt one regret: using plywood as my only seat covering. Ouch!

I was also shocked that ICT didn't get any moxie points, but that's what the results showed. We didn't have a huge crowd, so I guess? that could have been why? Just bad luck? Not sure if the connection failed or what, but ICT got moxie for the following race, and we didn't touch any of the connections.

Karen,
Let me first say that you guys did a smash up job running the race! You managed to get through all the technical difficulties and made it all happen without Jim and Patrick... that's quite a feat.

I want to let it go, but I think I'm very confused... ICT and Joker both show zero on the enduro Sunday, so what following race are you referring to?

I'm willing to accept that nobody voted for ICT Sunday, because it was a small crowd... but seeing as my family was in the audience, it might be prudent to double check the buttons before the next race. :-)

We do try to check the transponders before each race, and Moxie is now worth a lot more than in the past...

That's fair to consider. The Moxie board is with Milwaukee Makerspace. Might be able to get one of their guys to check the buttons. Not sure if a button check was done Sunday morning. Best I can do is ask Jackson and check the data that the board spit out because I should still have that.
Good news is I don't think that board will be used for any more races this year so if there is a glitch, it won't hurt anyone else this season.

I remember now, when the board came back in, there was only maybe 48 total button presses. Obviously that has to be wrong. We had a light crowd, but I can't believe it was that light. So I'm guessing the battery pack failed or something partway through the race. There's no indicator on the board that it is working. So there's no way to k ow when it failed.

Oh no. I just realized something. So the battery banks Pete gave us for the Moxie board were weird. They auto shut off if enough power wasn't being drawn. To cheat that, you had to turn on the flashlight function so that the LED pushed it over the power requirement so it wouldn't shut off. I know Jackson, Dan, and Dale swapped power banks Sunday morning, but I wonder if they forgot to turn on the flashlight mode, which caused the power bank to auto shutoff partway into the race.  Ugh. This really sucks. I bet that's what happened. Well, bless Pete for busting his ass to get an entire second system built to carry a second race. But it looks like we ended up with some glitches. I guess, thems the brakes.

Like I said, you and the others did a smash-up job getting this all together and pulled off. If it was just a battery pack dying and causing a small sampling, it's hardly much to complain about. Nothing to see here, carry on...

Cheers,
Nick

Once Patrick gets back he can review the scores. I noticed the numbers seem...different but I can't tell if there's significant anomalies.

It is weird to see Cartastrophe 6th and Phantom so low..

Cartastrophe got very little moxie. In the first sprint, they only took 3rd because they got caught in traffic. In the second sprint they were taken out halfway through the race because Baby Beemer tore off their valve stem(sound familiar?) and you just can't change a flat tire fast enough during a sprint race. And the moxie board failed during the Enduro so they weren't able to pick up points there.

Phantom 48 didn't race because Nick was there by himself mostly and just drove Ice Cream Truck, which turned out to be a good strategy since the constant tempo changing music and cone helmet raked in the moxie.

The real anomaly is ICT, Joker, and Kart of 1000 Faces getting no moxie during the enduro, but again, I think the power bank shut off early. So the real tide changer is the moxie board failing during the enduro. And I'm not sure much can be done about that now.

I'd recommend working with Patrick on that. I'd create a normalization scale based on the capture of the previous moxie scores. It's not perfect but at least reflects a somewhat real-world application based on an audience.

In short, take the working scores and just plot them into the other spots.
