Hi

I am using the Open5GS-UERANSIM profile to run an experiment involving RAN slicing, I first want to get multple UE's connected to the core. Then modify config files to allow RAN slicing as I see more support for RAN slicing with UERANSIM when it comes to their UE's compared to srsRAN's srsue. But I am running into a couple issues when starting out. I am following this tutorial.
and the profile instructions given

My experiment is called: ueranV2

I saw on a previous post that support for this profile has ended, could that be the reason for the following issues. And if so how could I fix them.

The sim ran node has the following issue

The creator of this profile no longer maintains it. I think you might be better off starting with this one: https://www.powderwireless.net/p/PowderProfiles/srsran5g-simulated-rf. Specifically, the update-profile branch. It hasn’t been updated to srsRAN 24.10 (which brings RAN slicing), but you could easily update srsRAN after you swap it in. Note that it also includes RIC/xApp integration.

yes I have invoked an instance of this profile once I saw the UERANSIM causing problems. If I wanted to do UERANSIM would I be better off creating an experiment on bare metal.

Just to confirm are you saying that the srsran5G profile you shared has to have its srsRAN_Project repo be updated to 24.10. What do you mean by the update-profile branch, is that in the srsRAN_Project repo.

Not sure what you mean. POWDER is providing bare metal in this case.

Yes… if you want to use the new RAN slicing features in 24.10.

If you look at the profile, you will see that this is a branch of the profile itself (this is a git-backed POWDER profile). This branch includes features/instructions for starting a RIC and xApp.

Hey Dustin

I had a follow up question about X11 to open up a GUI which is being required by the tutorial provided by srsRAN in order to connect multiple srsue's with ZMQ.

I have to run the following command
sudo gnuradio-companion ./multi_ue_scenario.grc

I have ssh'ed into the server with both -X and -Y methods, have installed the necessary X11 libraries, but I am still not able to open up xclock so I can test to see if X11 is working. Do you know what I am missing. I saw on other posts
that I would need a X11 server, I am running on a d430 would something like this work on that server.

Hi Adithya,

It’s very hard to say what is happening with the limited information you have provided. If you can provide an experiment link, the OS you are using on the computer you are SSHing from, and the specific errors you are encountering, we might be able to help.

Hard to tell if there is more informative output below the line in the image you pasted, but I have no issues with X forwarding from a linux or macos machine, so I suspect something is not setup correctly on your local machine. The issue is not on the POWDER side. This is the top google result regarding X forwarding and Windows: https://it.engineering.oregonstate.edu/run-x11-application-windows. Maybe have a look at that and see if you can apply what you learn there.
