FORWARDING EMAIL OF TEACHER MONA....
I am sending the list of prerequisite subjects as requested last Monday as well as the TENTATIVE distribution of subjects. I tried to put all track subjects in Grade 11 - 2nd semester, and Grade 12. However, we need to still plot the core subjects to make sure that there are not too many subjects in Grade 12.
If you notice, however, 1 STEM track subject (Pre-Calculus) is plotted in the 1st sem. The is cannot be avoided due to subject prerequsites. I am communicating with the Math coordinator to review the competencies and see if Basic Calculus may be considered as a co-requisite rather than pre-requisite to Physics.
Afterwards, we need to look at the available faculty as well.
The teaching load needs to well distributed. We cannot have full time teachers without teaching load in the first semester. Neither can we assign teaching overload in the second semester beyond what the law allows. This is going to be an administrative decision.
I am sorry if I cannot make a commitment in time for the enrollment that only core subjects will be offered on the first semester.
I understand that we (parents and students) are worried about making the about making the 'wrong' choice." But let us remember that applied subjects will cover the same competencies and if there is mastery, students should be able to transfer/apply the skills that they learned even if they choose another course later on. It might also be worthy to consider (for those who are worried about college entrance exams and are thinking that STEM gives the girls an edge) that the girls will be taking these tests as early as August of Grade 12, which means that they have not really covered all STEM subjects. The advantage, if indeed there is, might not be significant. Some might not agree with me, but I still believe that no learning or experience is ever wasted. :)
