Ijust updated to Windows 11, and installed Adobe Acrobat. The website forced me to install Adobe Creative Cloud, and insists I use that to install all apps. It says it has installed Adobe Acrobat, and there is no "Pro" option available. I am able to edit pdfs online using the cloud based version of the software, but the desktop app version will only open adobe acrobat reader, so I cannot edit a pdf unless I use the web based version. Did they get rid of the acrobat pro desktop app, or do I need to do something to use that instead of the reader? I have tried setting my defaults, etc., and they do not show it as "reader" they simply say "adobe acrobat".

When I open the desktop version (Adobe Acrobat) I only have 6 tools available. I have tried viewing all tools, and searching. I cannot edit pdf, organize pages, redact, etc. Only view, and request signatures. See attached screenshot. At the top it says Adobe Acrobat Reader. However, when I launch creative cloud, this is the only thing that opens.

When I access the web version, I can use all the tools. When I click download desktop application, it sends me to adobe creative cloud, and creative cloud says I have Adobe Acrobat installed, not Adobe Reader.

Also, just FYI, when I search my installed apps, I do not see Adobe Reader anywhere. Same when I open Creative Cloud to see what apps I have installed. Adobe Reader is not listed anywhere, and I do not seem to be able to uninstall adobe reader. I also do not have it as an option in my default preferences. In all of these places, I can only select Adobe Acrobat. However, every time I open a pdf, it says Adobe Acrobat Reader at the top, and will not let me edit a pdf.

In Windows 11, suddenly the window frame changes color (windows 7 type). Your applications work as if they are broken, with instability.

I had a positive view of your company and I stopped paying subscription for your apps but with various dumb problems the situation is frustrating.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and ensure you have the recent version 22.3.20322 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also, try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here -discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Win and try using the application there and check.

My best is guess is that it seems like a registry key preference is somehow retained from an older Windows interface version, specifically if Windows 11 was not a fresh install (not installed from scratch, but as system upgrade on top of an older Windows version).

For example, If you downloaded and installed Adobe Acrobat (64-bit) using the Adobe Creative Cloud(CC) app, and allowed the CC app to perform the install automatically, this method seems to break 64bit and 32-bit library modules, or even fail to download and install required .Net Framewrok or Visual C++ dependencies (in order to reflect the proper updates).

In which case, a conflict will pop up every time the host program (in this case Adobe Acrobat) requires from the OS a dependency module which is not properly registered in the WOW64 or the WOW6432Node susbsystem(s).

Assuming that this was your installation method, I would recommend to try and uninstall your current version of Adobe Acrobat, run the AcroCleaner tool, and then download Acrobat from another official Adobe download source (not the CC app and manually execute the installer program).

If the problem would persist after employing this method with a Acrobat Pro (64-bit), you may also try and test with Acrobat Pro (32-bit) version, and maybe we could even narrow down the issue further to a Microsoft Windows registry preference (just a guess in the blind).

[For the "did you search?" trolls, yes I've searched for answers and I have gotten nothing even close to what I'm searching for. I'm at work and can't spend precious time searching more and this flaw is killing my productivity thereby impacting my ability to support my students.]

I am going MAD with Acrobat moving the window and resizing the window every time I open a different PDF file. I have my APP windows in certain places so I can see multiple things and transition between them quickly and efficiently. BUT, every time I open a new PDF file for another student, for unknown, illogical, maddening reasons Adobe keeps moving the window to another location and resizing it. No other apps do this.

I have temporarily found a workaround for the resizing by setting the default to open @ 100%, but what I would REALLY like is for it to let me set the window size and location then when I open PDFs it opens them right where I set it instead of it deciding to make me move and resize this for EVERY &^%*^$ FILE. Ths wasn't a probem long ago, but I'm finding Acrobat to be increasingly maddening as time progresses. I'd use another app to open PDF's but because it's a district/company laptop, I cannot.

The setting that causes that is actually in the individual PDF and not in Acrobat preferences. Below is an extract from the thread I found on how to stop it. I have also added a link to the original thread.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version installed Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

It is continuing to move the window when I open another PDF file. I've tried to: open 'PDF A' - open 'PDF B' - move window to desired location - close 'PDF B' - open 'PDF B'.... this was to see if it would "remember" the location. No change. It still keeps moving the window back to that one spot (sort of in the left side, but not completely).

However, I did notice an unusual, but so far consistent, patttern. If I move the window to my desired location, completely close Acrobat, then open a PDF, this first PDF WILL open in the desired location. However, when I open a second PDF (or any number of PDFs after the first one) it then forces the window to move every time another PDF is opened. WHY?!?!?!?!?!?! I don't see any logic to implement a feature like this.

Right now, my best workaround seems to be to bog down the anemic computer (school budgets...) by opening up all 150 PDFs I'll be working with at once then move the mindow and close as I go.... this is just ridiculous and unnecessary.

Would yo umind sharing a small video of the issue for a better understanding. Also try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described in the help page -discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

I note this was a problem back in 2018. It is STILL a problem in 2024. WHY has Adobe not made it possible to TURN OFF this resizing. Not only does it bounce everything around on my 2 crowded screens, but it also freezes Acrobat for a non-trivial amount of time while this is going on. Including after I close the document.

You (as in Adobe) are wasting my time and reducing my productivity. If I want a window resized or moved, I will resize or move it. I do not need some person not even working at my company to muck around with my settings.

"I just figured out how to stop it in some files. Open the PDF > Document Properties > Initial View > Window Options > UNCHECK Resize Window to initial page. We should have the option to ignore this setting in PDF's."

I have windows 10 and acrobat reader DC. Acrobat will not open, just spins and then stops. PDFs will not open unless I open through email. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I have tried trouble shooting. not sure what else to do. I have read other threads that suggest opening Acrobat and changing settings but I cannot even open to get to settings.

We're sorry for the trouble you had with Adobe Reader, please reboot the machine once and use Acrobat cleaner tool to remove any corrupt and conflicting installation files Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Hi Anan Sri, I did what you mentioned but it still does not open. I have Uninstalled, reinstalled multiple times, applied compatibility, watched multiple tutorials but it is not opening. I have to use pdf for my office work, please help me fix this problem.

The same problem. As can be seen in Task Manager, the program has started up, but not the graphical interface, nothing is displayed on the the screen. Compatibilty setting (Windows 8 ) solved the problem.

Link for Cleaner tool do not work & could not find it. Second time in 1 month that Adobe will not open. Compatibility is set for Windows 8. Will not change - Do No Open with Protected Mode Disabled is marked. When try to change it pops up -"Adobe Acrobat cannot Open in Protected Mode due to an incompatibility with your system configuration." I have already uninstalled & reinstalled this program. Please advise.

hi. i read your response. I have windows 10 and my PD f's are being saved to Microsoft edge. I decided to purchase adobe acrobat user guide because the Adobe Reader I had would only allow me to read and I wanted to be able to edit my pages for move the pages around in my document. However I did everything that you told me but it won't show me a compatibility under the same category that you mentioned it doesn't have compatibility under properties so I'm wondering what to do from there
