I can access my Netflix account via my computer and can stream to my Xbox and other laptops. I've been on the phone three different times with Netflix tech support and they're telling me it's currently a "known issue" with iPads - but there's no ETA and and I'm not seeing any other reports of this on other forums.

Both of my iPad2s (32gb WiFi) can now access NetFlix with no problem. However, these are my daughters' iPads. MY iPad is a 1st gen 64gb 3G and yet I still cannot access NetFlix. I'm getting the "cannot connect to Netflix at this time..." error.

Not sure what this "known issue" with iPads would be with Netflix's iPad app. That would be like Microsoft claiming a problem with Word for the Mac is an OS X or a particular Mac model problem they have nothing to do with whatsoever.

Just so you don't feel all alone on this, yes, I'm having exactly the same problem ... except that it's with my iPhone. I can connect through the TV and desktop ... but not using the Netflix application I just downloaded from the iTunes store. I launch the "app" using WIFI and get the "We are unable to connect you to Netflx. Please try again later" message. Worse ... the "app" is frozen ... so there's no maneuvering.

I am having the exact same issue on my iPad 2 (16gb wifi) and, just like you, the Netflix screen freezes with the error message up immediately upon opening the app. Also having no problems streaming from my iPhone, laptop, or PS3. Sorry I can't help but I'm glad I'm not alone!

So I called NetFlix tech support for the 4th time last night. This time, they didn't even pretend to have a clue what the problem was. They had me reinstall the app, they changed my password, blah blah blah. Finally they told me "it's obviously an Apple DNS issue you should make an appointment at the Genius Bar". HUH????You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me. I can get to EVERY website and access my corporate Exchange email. This is NOT an DNS issue and Apple is not my ISP. So with that, I've canceled my NetFlix account.

I can't get access to netflix via iPad. I can via wii and computer. Netflix has sent me to apple but I don't want to pay 39.99 for support. Hoping someone knows what to do so I can get access given my son is using the wii right now

Assuming that your iPad (regardless of whether it's an iPad or iPad2) can connect to netflix.com through the iPad's Safari browser, you're probably not going to get this resolved. The problem is at the Netflix end and the fact that they are redirecting users to Apple indicates that they don't have a solution and are grasping at straws. That said, I suppose it's possible that Apple made a change in iOS 4.3.3 that may have broken connectivity with Netflix's streaming servers but if that were the case, we would see a lot more users complaining about this.

Coming around full circle (at least in my case), for sh!tz and grinz, I reopened my Netflix account today. Now I'm getting it once again on my iPad and both iPad2s. Note that I had to delete the Netflix app and reinstall it on all 3 iPads, but I'd done this MANY times over the past several weeks.

i'm assuming it's something on the netflix servers and how they handle requests from the apps on Apple devices. As you say they've obviously changed something on their backend. too bad they wouldn't own up to it instead of trying to say "Apple DNS" obviously they don't understand basic networking ;-)

I am having the same problem, started july 8. did a netflix rest in the settings box on my ipad1, reinstalled my app, then called netflix support. they found out that my ip address had me in Colorado, rather than Virginia, and that was the problem. I use DSL for my internet connection. They suggest I call Apple support, but Apple would not help. I will try to release my ip address and see if that fixes it.

"Reopening" this thread since it is a ongoing issue. As others have already experienced, I'm running into the same streaming issues. Netflix, PluralSite, and other streaming services won't work on AppleTV, Wii, Samsung Smart TVs, Apple iPad, and Apple iPhones but does through a web browser. Also, audio streams won't stream properly (constantly restart) and PlayStation updates won't download properly (get 175% download messages before throwing an error). Lastly, I cannot login to some banking websites and have difficulties with content downloading on other reputable sites.

So, as others have, I created a profile which filters based off of MAC address and has malware scanning and web scanning is turned off - so essentially everything that you want in a modern security appliance turned off. Most of the systems began to work, but Netflix on the Wii still does not work (streams get to 100% but never start. I also tried the Netflix filters used on the UTM but as other have experience this does not work on the XG).

Also as others have experienced, no useful log files are created as to what it getting blocked, either Malware or web filtering of any type kills any stream (even simple filters such as blocking webmail will kill a stream - seems to be a issue with the scan engine itself and nothing to do with the content.)

Obviously this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed as I can purchase a $50 firewall from Walmart that will work better than the XG currently is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Sophos fan, but this has been an ongoing problem for way too long. What's the plan for this to be fixed? My definition of "fixed" is the ability to have malware scanning and web filtering enabled on devices that stream content. It needs to work this way because a large number of devices stream content and disabling malware scanning and/or web filtering is not on option.

Very well said and thank you for taking the time. Sophos is a great product and I would hate to do without it because things like Netflix don't work but I am hanging in there as long as I can. Can't beat the Sophos security.

Thanks Quentin for sharing the service release! This is good news - definitely something I'll try out tonight. Also, I'm totally aware of the business roots of Sophos and our company makes good use of their technology - it's great stuff. However, I did want to re-emphasize that the issue is not isolated to Netflix only but all streaming content including sites such as Pluralsight and YouTube which are used in corporate settings. Also, there is a known issue with the web filtering engine which causes issues with streaming content, including services that provide patch update content. It's a real problem for businesses as well not just for home users.

Netflix, facebook, messenger, etc are now corporate multi-meadia tools both inhouse and for customers. MS and MAC updates come in through the various internet connections not just MS WSUS/SCCM servers.

After the MR1 update my Apple updates flow without any issues, I have automatically downloaded and installed to MAC OS 10.11.4 beta releases both over 1gb. Previously the only way to successfully download them was through the UTM.

Good news - I updated my Sophos firewall with the Maintenance Release MR-1.1 ( -firewall/f/46/t/75072) and it seems to have resolved the issue. I can now stream media with both web filtering and IPS turned on. I did have to turn off stream filtering in order for it to work. Overall, it appears that this has finally been resolved.

Funny, as soon as I updated my firmware to MR-1.1 streaming services stopped working. Could you provide a little more detail about where you turned off 'stream filtering'? I searched through the settings but didn't find it. I still have to have HTTP scanning turned off for streaming to work.

This doesn't appear to work for me on an iPad or iPhone. It only works if I don't have HTTP or HTTPS Decrypt and Scan enabled in my LAN to WAN policy. When either of those are enabled, it won't stream, if I turn them off, it actually works great. I even tried to add a regex for netflix and the exact URLs with no luck (Screenshot).
