Well, I dod it! Last afternoon I turned them loose - first time out of
the tubs - into the dog kennel, and did they have FUN! I took 2 60 ft
rolls of poultry wire to enclose the lower 4 ft of the dog kennel - as
a Chicken Run. There are some shrubs there, some liked those; others
just wandered about pecking the grass, and the dirt. Interestingly,
some wanted BACK IN the TUBS! Getting toward dusk, I herded them into
the corner, and back into tubs for the night. It is raining today - so
no outside for a while.
I would like to build a temporary shelter arrangement until I can
build a more permanent coop.
The kennel is a circle of ten 12' x 6' panels of chain link- bordered
on one side by the back porch -whioch is a 12 x 20 ft- three season
room. The idea of just letting the chickens use that - would be sort
of ok, except, the would probably foul the sofa up in no time.

Thoughts?

God Bless,
Martin

You really want them to be outside for a more permant run. The smell
would get really icky inside. Work on setting up a coop and pen
outside. The kennel run sounds like a great idea. I took my old
storage shed and transformed it into a coop and added about 100 foot
of wire around it to make a pen with enough space left to make the
gate. I spent a few more dollers at lowes for the hinges and some
more nails and another roll of pen wire to make the gate and go around
the pen one more time to make the height about 6 feet or better.
Chickens can fly little short flights. Unless you plan on clipping
their wings you need to make your pen high enough so that your birds
dont fly out.
