Subject: [hsNW] Derby Mini Maker Faire 2nd 3rd June 2012

Hello Hackspace People

We've had some great applications to exhibit things from some of the
bigger Hackspaces and they have been sent confirmations of their
inclusion in the Derby Mini Maker Faire.

Just to remind you the Maker Faire will be on 3rd June 2012. We'll be
having a Makers and Hackers ONLY day on the Saturday 2nd June THIS IS
FOR YOU!!!

In addition to these exhibitors from large Hackspaces I'd like to
provide a few tables for other Hackspace that as yet have not applied
to exhibit. We'll probably jumble you near to the larger Hackspaces
who are already confirmed as in attendance. However at this time I
need to get an idea of numbers. We'd like to provide some Maker passes
and some free entry tickets to Hacker groups and Hackspace but they
need to please contact me directly with the number of folk you might
bring and the exhibits or items you might want to bring along.

We might be able to find accommodation for some visitor (sofa surfing)
and we may well put on a small meetup at the Nottingham Hackspace
(about 20 miles away) on the Friday 1st June 2012 for members of other
Hackspaces who wish to visit. All this CAN be made possible if we get
an idea of numbers and interest.

Please email me:

dom...@derbysilkmill.org

Looking forward to seeing you at the Maker Faire! If you just want to
come along as a visitor tickets are now on sale too

My wife's at work, so I might take the kids :-)

btw thanks for kicking the group into life :-)
I've tweeted the meeting around.
Would you be able to add location details (at
least he address and postcode) for TECC to the
eventbrite page?

Cheers,

- Richard

Yeah you should.. My hectic schedule over the summer is ruining all
the events I want to go to, but I'm hoping to go to EMF if it happens!
No problem,it will be great to get the group going, but I think it may
take a little while to get a regular group of folks involved.

I've added the details to the Eventbrite.

Cheers

Si

Dear Esteemed Follower of this Hackers Mail box!

As you are no doubt already aware there are two major events in the Nottingham Hackspace calendar for May and June.

Nottingham Hackspace 2nd Annual Open Day -

From about 11am on 26th May 2012 Nottinghack will throw open it's door to the general public with displays, tours, talks and activities for the local community. Later we'll be having a 1st birthday party for Nottingham Hackspace 2.0 (Bring a Bottle). A big part of this last year's Open Day was the visitors we had from other Hackspaces. Please DO join us for the party. Many of the members will likely stay through the night on the Saturday so as long as you don't fall asleep (it's strictly against the rules of the space) then you are welcome to bring a kip mat and sleeping bag and hack with your eyes closed for eight hours or so. We'd love to meet you if you are from another Hackspace. Please do drop me an email chicke...@gmail.com so I know you intend to come along!

The space is pretty easy to find with the map and about 15 mins from the station and there is parking too

Derby Mini Maker Faire

You'll have heard about the Mini Maker Faire. Maybe you're on the fence about it? We'd like to have strong representation from UK Hackerspaces and interested individuals too. Please tell everyone about the Faire.

Advanced tickets are £2.50 through eventbrite

If you would like to be considered for a Maker's pass (like a back stage pass) or for some complimentary tickets please get in touch with me chicke...@gmail.com with your full name, your hackspace and your intentions based on the below schedule.

Friday 1st June 2012

A gathering at Nottingham Hackspace from about 19:00 come join Nottinghack at the Nottingham Hackspace for informal, relaxed hacking and socialising (probably not heavy drinking though as we've a faire in the morning). Proper members of "visiting" hackspace can stay through the night as we've a volunteer from Nottinghack to supervise all night hacking, as long as you don't fall asleep (it's strictly against the rules of the space) then you are welcome to bring a kip mat and sleeping bag and hack with your eyes closed for eight hours or so. But if you intend to do this you MUST email me chicke...@gmail.com only folk who have got in touch will be considered guest of the Hackspace for the weekend.

There is a regular train service between Nottingham and Derby, it costs about £6 return and runs into the night it's about 20 miles by car.

Saturday 2nd June 2012

Maker's Only Day. This won't be open to the public and you'll need a Maker's pass to get in. Again if you'd like to attend this as a maker you need to get in touch with me chicke...@gmail.com this will mostly be set-up for the following days faire though we're also having a talk by Tim Hunkin http://www.timhunkin.com/ and several behind the scenes tours of the Old Silk Mill museum which is an industrial museum full of cool stuff. There will likely be a good party or event on in the evening in Derby too. There is a Duck Race on the river too.

Sunday 3rd June 2012

The Maker Faire proper will start at 11am and finish at 5pm. This will be open to the public. There will be a whole room devoted to Hackerspaces. Additionally there will be a making area for soldering and hacking FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC which will be attended by volunteers from Hackspaces. To be one of these volunteers you need to email me chicke...@gmail.com  you can do this as a Maker or as Crew but you'll need to contact me. In the evening there is a party which is part of the cultural Olympiad called "On Your Bike" which will have the "Charity Shop DJ" and a set by Nottinghack's Own Chunky Hampton AKA Matt Little again you'll need a pass for this.

I hope we'll see you at one of these events. They really are a great opportunity for Hackerspace people to meet up. As you know there will be other events this summer with the Manchester Mini Maker Faire in late July and the EMF Camp and Brighton Mini Maker Faire in Early September.

Nottingham Hackspace will be at all these events!

Kindest regards

Dominic
