Just circling around this reminder about OggCamp which I just sent the StaffsLUG peoples... but hopefully it'd be great to see people from FSFE Potteries, ORG Stoke, and Potteries Hackspace too next weekend.

Hope to see you there!

Hey!

Just a quick reminder about Oggcamp which is next weekend on the 25th and 26th April!

Most people from the LUG are likely going to be there on that first day, and some like myself on both days as I'll be stopping over in the hotel.  But it's an easier train journey up to Manchester, see my email from January below where I first mentioned this.

Just had an email from Oggcamp themselves with some details... so have a look at the below email from them too, or look on their website oggcamp.org where tickets are still for sale!

This is the email I just had from them (keep scrolling down to see my email from January where I first mentioned this and our plans)

Hello, amazing OggCamp participant!

It's nearly here! OggCamp 2026 is just around the corner... and we couldn't be more thrilled to welcome you for an exciting weekend of talks, workshops, and community fun.

We wanted to share some useful information, ahead of opening the doors next weekend.
In case you've missed them, we've shared a couple of blog posts in the run-up to the event, which you can check out here:
Schedule
Doors will open at 9.30am on the Saturday for registration. Please be sure to have your ticket PDF, or email address you used to purchase the ticket, available for our crew at the registration desk. If you pre-ordered merchandise when you registered / got your ticket, we should have that for you at the registration desk.

The opening session on the main track is between 10 and 10.30, followed by a talk from our sponsor, Collabora, from 10.30 to 11.30. Note that we're aiming to have the main track available as a live stream on YouTube.

We're delighted to have a fantastic set of speakers on the scheduled track across both days! However… the key element of OggCamp is that it is an Unconference - made by you, and all the other attendees. Bring along your own topic, and there will be space on The Grid for you to schedule a session. We will not have facilities to record or stream the unconference rooms.

On Saturday, around the lunch break:
  • There will be an opportunity for a group of OggCamp attendees to visit Kraken - the technology arm of Octopus Energy, based across the road - for a behind-the-scenes view of their systems. We're grateful to the team at Kraken for making this possible!
  • We'll also have time for lightning talks, much shorter quick presentations that may not make sense as a full unconference session.
Full details and arrangements for these activities will be explained during the opening session.

Social events (and food)
The Pioneer Room will be the social hub of OggCamp once again - as well as the merch stand and The Grid for the unconference sessions, we'll have tables for socialising, demoing any side projects, and just getting together for chats.

On Saturday evening, we'll be hosting an OggCamp Quiz (a fun pub-style quiz, about Linux and Open Source) at 8pm, in the Pendulum Suite, aka the main track room. The gap between the end of the scheduled sessions at ~5.30 and the quiz starting, is to allow folks to get some food…

Talking of food! It's important to know that, being run by volunteers with a minimal budget, OggCamp is not a catered event. The hotel has some food options available via the Bar; or, you can find plenty of options just a couple of streets away, in Manchester city centre.

Merchandise/Raffle
We will have OggCamp merch available. T-shirts and mugs will be available at our stand in the Pioneer Room.

We'll also be selling tickets for the famous OggCamp raffle, with prizes on offer including a mini PC, some mini-radios, a "Lost in Space" electronics kit, an open firmware-friendly home camera, and more!

Code of Conduct, Health and Safety
All attendees are reminded that you must follow the OggCamp Code of Conduct at all times. If you see a CoC violation, or need help, talk to a member of the Crew.

The health and safety of attendees is our top priority. Please do not attend the event if you are experiencing any of the known COVID-19 or Flu symptoms.

Where to find out more
Be sure to follow OggCamp via our social channels for updates leading up to and during the event. We're primarily using Mastodon and Telegram - there's a Bluesky account as well.

Make sure to add #OggCamp2026 to your social posts - you can see a Fediwall here, and we'll have something similar on display during the event.

We look forward to seeing you in Manchester!

Lo!

Just giving you all a heads up in case you didn't know... Oggcamp is back for this year!

(they skipped last year... some of us in the LUG went in 2024 & 2019 though)

https://www.oggcamp.org/

It's a 2 day event on the weekend of April 25th and 26th at the Pendulum Hotel in Manchester (same venue as the last two times)... which is only a short walk from the train station in Manchester.

Usually people make their own way up by just hopping on a train at Stoke station which are very regular... and it's a good opportunity to take in some interesting talks and it's highly recommended.

We don't get a lot of things like this which happen so close to us!  Usually you have to go much further south (e.g. London) or even Brussels (e.g. like FOSDEM which is happening today and tomorrow actually!.. although there are some people in the LUG interested in doing that next year with cheap flights... let me know if that interests you too)

So don't miss your chance, you'll be in good company if you do come with plenty of familiar faces.

Hope to see you there!

Oh... and your ticket (buy them online) covers you for both days... but people in the LUG just seem to normally go on the first day only... it's up to you.  Actually this year I'll be stopping overnight in the hotel itself (it's half price if you use the code DELEGATE) and doing the second day too.  Alternatively it's not exactly difficult to get another very short and cheap train the next day.

I'll try and remember to send another reminder closer to... but don't wait too long to get your tickets!
