Hi everyone,

For those of us who care about useless trivia, Device Voice Drum (D-V-D) was recorded in Atlanta on this day 20 years ago, June 15, 2002. Today is as good as any to pull this concert video off my shelf and play it. It's been awhile.

Sad news: I heard from a mutual friend that TJ Higgins, longtime member of POTSW mailing list, died in a motorcycle accident on the weekend. TJ told me a few years ago that among the dozens (hundreds?) of Kansas shows he attended over the decades, the show at which DVD was recorded was one of the most memorable ones. TJ, you are in my thoughts. Carry on my friend. (Also, remembering the late, great Robby Steinhardt on this day. I thought his performance on DVD was remarkable. Love his comment at the end of Child Of Innocence: "Who says you can't rock when you're 52 years old?!")

What an awesome memory, Owen. I was blessed by others that I was able to be at that show.

So sorry to hear about TJ.

Oh, man, I hadn't heard about TJ.  A real PotSW  OG he was. We were all so young then.  RIP and Carry On.  :(

Thanks for the note Owen.  I remember reading a lot of PotSW posts from TJ “back in the day”

I drove in to Atlanta for that show from Indianapolis and stayed with a friend. I vividly remember that show and sitting next to a couple of older fellas, one of whom had to get up to pee about every 15 minutes during the show. 😃

I joined the list in about June 1995. We had just got the Internet at work and I used Yahoo to go search for interesting stuff on the 'net (this was at least 2 years before Google for any of the youngsters out there reading this). I found Ryan's mailing list, joined up and have been a member ever since.

The list was pretty active back then.  Freaks of Nature had just been released. I didn't even know Kansas has new record out so that was a major revelation. Besides Kansas we discussed various other topics like Alanis Morissette's groundbreaking new album "Jagged Little Pill" (remember that?).  That summer Kansas was on their Freaks of Nature tour and for some shows was the opening act for the Alan Parsons Project. I vividly recall a review TJ gave about the show he saw.  APP is also one of my all-time favorites but I was under the impression that they were strictly a studio act -- much like Steely Dan used to be -- and never played live shows. So to read about a concert with both Kansas and APP on the bill was amazing to me.

Fast-forward all these years later to 2022...  Alanis is resuming a World Tour "Celebrating 25 Years of Jagged Little Pill" (including a stop in Calgary). Alan Parsons is still touring; he just released a fantastic live concert CD/DVD package and will be releasing a new studio album "From the New World" in July. As we all know Kansas is still going strong. And we're all still on POTSW mailing list.

It's funny you mention Alannis Morrisette. First time I ever heard of her was on David Letterman. I thought she was awful. Then a few months later I ended up buying the CD.
I think it was more like 1997 when I first got on the mailing list. First time I ever saw Kansas was in 1996 opening for Styx on their Return to Paradise tour. I was surprised that they didn't play anything from FoN since it was just a year old.
Sad to hear about TJ. I remember him being very active back in the days when the mailing list was going every day.

Sorry to hear about TJ. I met him at the first Kansas concert I attended.

Regarding the DVD, did anyone mention that yesterday was also Steve Walsh's birthday? I recall the audience sing "Happy Birthday" to him during the show.

I missed that. Happy belated birthday, Steve. Hope he's doing well.

Great to hear from all of you, hope everyone is doing well! Sorry to hear about TJ

I saw the APP - Kansas show in Cincy - 1995, they did play 1-2 songs from FoN to open the show. I wasn’t impressed with APP and left early.

Seeing Kansas at Cincinnati Hard Rock Casino on Saturday July 30.
