Interesting.

Might be inspired by the Rolling Stones Mobile.

Rich has no eye patch here...

That was pretty cool. The way it ended makes me think there was more to it. Back in the day when Rich used a glass eye.

Super interesting to see the steps to get that sound on Drastic Measures, especially the drums. They clearly were going for something different.

They liked the drum sound so much that they added tons of reverb to the drums on COWS and The Wall when they did remixes for the first Best Of.

I’m also noting that Kerry is never seen with a guitar in these clips, matches up with comments of his level of involvement with the album.

Wasn't Kerry the only keyboard player at that time?

Thanks for sharing !  Hadn’t seen this one before…and didn’t know that much about drastic measures from a production standpoint.

John played and then live for this tour you at least had (going by memory so someone can correct me) John and Kerry along with Michael Gleason and Warren Ham. Warren continues to be extremely active and is currently out on tour again with Toto opening for Journey on current tour.

Well, that was the 1980s. Record companies and producers were pushing for new sounds and shorter songs.

Other bands delivered far worse music.

Although Drastic Measure is of course not a Song for America.

So the Omaha line-up without Robby.

Kerry later took Warren Ham, Michael Gleason and Dave Hope
to AD?

Which led to Kansas' disbandment?

re Warren Ham, you're right: I saw him a couple of weeks ago here in Calgary with Toto, opening for Journey. Warren is a talented versatile musician and singer. Prior to his stint in Toto I saw Warren in Ringo's All-Starr Band (with Steve Lukather, which probably explains his involvement with Toto).

re "...didn’t know that much about drastic measures from a production standpoint." Me neither and I must say it has given me a greater appreciation for the work that went into creating this album. I'd love to know the circumstances that led to Kansas hiring Neil Kernon to produce. Check out his Wikipedia page to learn about his long and varied career as a producer and engineer.

re Le Mobile, HJ wrote "Might be inspired by the Rolling Stones Mobile". I thought the same thing, although Le Mobile is a lot bigger and is more modern. According to the Le Mobile webpage it has now found a permanent home in Carlsbad, CA so I guess that means that it is no longer being used for remote recording. You may be interested to know that the final resting spot for RSM is right here in Calgary, at the National Music Centre. You can see it in a special exhibition space adjacent to the King Eddy music venue.
