Every Saturday morning on my way home from work I listen to the American Top 40 from this week in some year from the '70s. Today is 1978, and #38 was "Point of Know Return." He told a good story about the band.
Said that Steve had told the story of the early days that they'd do a few shows a month for $100. They decided that to make a name for themselves they had a lot of expensive equipment. That didn't leave a lot of money left over. But to keep their two roadies they paid them more than they paid themselves. The roadies made $10 a week, while the band members only made $7 each, and sometimes even had to borrow money from the roadies to eat.
Elsewhere on the countdown was a disco version of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," which was odd.

Wasn’t that alluded to in Every Step of the Way?

The band living on a dollar a day is pretty well known and has been discussed in many interviews, including in the MOON documentary.  The crew living on 10 bucks a week was news to me, however, but not surprising.  I think they've always been good to their guys.

FWIW, YMMV, yadda yadda....

I didn't remember the specific dollar a day thing, but I do remember them being extremely poor. Been a while since I watched MOON. The story that always sticks out to me is the hitchhiker wanting to be let out after only a few minutes so that he can get a ride with someone who has heat. LOL I just thought it was cool that Casey did one of his little stories about the band.
