 Dear Kansas group,

it is great to see this mailing list. I have a question and hope you can help me. Freaks of Nature is one of my favourite Kansas albums and I found this excellent interview on YouTube:

At around 24:00 David told that Kansas recorded two songs from Kerry:
Wheels and When Things Get Electric. Did someone hear the Kansas
version of When Things Get Electric? I would love to hear it!

Hi Markus,

 

Kansas didn’t record “WTGE” – but David was featured on this song released by Kerry on his solo album.  I’m sure David was talking about which songs he was featured on in the 1994 timeframe…

What Jeff said. 

Wheels has a special place in my heart.  Kerry wrote about how great it was to work with Steve on a song again in his autobiography update for Seeds of Change.  To my knowledge, Wheels is the last real collaboration between Kerry and Steve. And what a wonderful song!  Phil on drums, Steve on vocals, David on violin, and Kerry doing the rest.

Jeff, are you 100% sure that there is no Kansas version of the song? It doesn't sound clear to me in the interview. Of course I would also like this version to exist  :-)

Bert, I totally agree, Wheels is a great song. Do you refer to the 2nd edition of Seeds of Change, or was the 2023 edition also updated with new chapters? I thought the 2023 edition was only a reprint of the 2nd edition.

Kansas did record a demo of Kerry’s “Racing Away” for the Power album. That song ended up on WTGE.

Always loved the Kansas version of Racing Away. 

My brain goes to my favorite, non-released songs, Children of the Shadows and the alternate version of No Man’s Land (with verses in minor key) from Power Demos.

I wish Kansas would release it because it is another album with Walsh
With different songs
