Microsoft Windows is a computer operating system developed by Microsoft. It was first launched in 1985 as a graphical operating system built on MS-DOS. The initial version was followed by several subsequent releases, and by the early 1990s, the Windows line had split into two separate lines of releases: Windows 9x for consumers and Windows NT for businesses and enterprises. In the following years, several further variants of Windows would be released: Windows CE in 1996 for embedded systems; Pocket PC in 2000 (renamed to Windows Mobile in 2003 and Windows Phone in 2010) for personal digital assistants and, later, smartphones; Windows Holographic in 2016 for AR/VR headsets; and several other editions.

Windows MultiPoint Server was an operating system based on Windows Server. It was succeeded by the MultiPoint Services role in Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server version 1709. It was no longer being developed in Windows Server version 1803 and later versions.

In 2012 and 2013, Microsoft released versions of Windows specially designed to run on ARM-based tablets; these versions of Windows, named "Windows RT" and "Windows RT 8.1," were based on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, respectively. Upon the release of Windows 10 in 2015, the ARM-specific version for large tablets was discontinued; large tablets (such as the Surface Pro 4) were only released with x86 processors and could run the full version of Windows 10. Windows 10 Mobile had the ability to be installed on smaller tablets (up to nine inches);[26] however, very few such tablets were released, and Windows 10 Mobile primarily ended up only running on smartphones until its discontinuation. In 2017, the full version of Windows 10 gained the ability to run on ARM, thus rendering a specific version of Windows for ARM-based tablets unnecessary.

With Windows, you can quickly upgrade from one edition of Windows to another, provided the upgrade path is supported. For information on what edition of Windows is right for you, see the following articles:

Each desktop edition in the table also has an N and KN SKU. These editions have had media-related functionality removed. Devices with N or KN SKUs installed can be upgraded to corresponding N or KN SKUs using the same methods.

Edition upgrades via Microsoft Store for Business are no longer available with the retirement of the Microsoft Store for Business. For more information, see Microsoft Store for Business and Education retiring March 31, 2023 and Microsoft Store for Business and Microsoft Store for Education overview.

To upgrade desktop editions of Windows using MDM, enter the product key for the upgraded edition in the UpgradeEditionWithProductKey policy setting of the WindowsLicensing CSP. For more info, see WindowsLicensing CSP.

For information on upgrading editions of Windows using Microsoft Intune, including switching out of S mode, see Upgrade Windows 10/11 editions or switch out of S mode on devices using Microsoft Intune.

Use Windows Configuration Designer to create a provisioning package to upgrade a desktop edition of Windows. Windows Configuration Designer is available as part of the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) or as a stand-alone Microsoft Store app. Download the Windows Configuration Designer from one of the following locations:

Download and install the Windows ADK - When installing the ADK, make sure to select Configuration Designer. After installation, Windows Configuration Designer can be found in the Start Menu under Windows Kits > Windows Imaging and Configuration Designer.

Volume license customers whose license has expired need to change the edition of Windows to an edition with an active license. Downgrading the edition of Windows is possible using the same methods that were used to perform an edition upgrade. If the downgrade path is supported, then apps and settings can be migrated from the current edition. If a path isn't supported, then a clean install is required.

The table may not represent more complex scenarios. For example, you can perform an upgrade from Pro to Pro for Workstation on a computer with an embedded Pro key using a Pro for Workstation license key. You can then later downgrade this computer back to Pro with the firmware-embedded key. The downgrade is allowed but only because the pre-installed OS is Pro.

You can move directly from Enterprise to any valid destination edition. In this example, downgrading to Pro for Workstations, Pro Education, or Education requires an additional activation key to supersede the firmware-embedded Pro key. In all cases, you must comply with Microsoft License Terms. If you're a volume license customer, refer to the Microsoft Volume Licensing Reference Guide.

I love how they are just the right size to finish in 2 hours. After a stressful day, pulling out one of these has helped reduce the built up anxiety. The quality of the diamonds and canvases is also a plus. I am looking forward to buying more kits.

I didn't buy this kit when it first came out and I'd been kicking myself ever since. I was so happy when it was restocked. These designs are absolutely gorgeous and the black outline really makes the colors pop. I hope there's a second window's edition to come!

I am trying to activate windows server 2019 standard key from windows server 19 EVAL ISO But I am not able to activate the key. I have tried the above step as mention but luck. Please find the step which I have performed and the error screenshot. please help to fix the issue.

If you install Evaluation edition of Windows Server it will expect a Retail key when doing the straight conversion. For those of us with Volume license keys the upgrade path involves first using DISM ONLINE Set edition using a KMS key, Then on reboot use slmgr /ipk using your Volume key and then finally run slmgr /ato.

I've implemented my Big Bag for Windows using Farkas Mt's Portable Keyboard Layout app. In my Github EPKL repository you'll find not only the Big Bag tricks but a whole new version of PKL called EPKL where the E is a bit mystical but it can stand for "EPiKaL" (my version used to be called PKL[eD] meaning "PKL, edition DreymaR"). It adds to the already good functionality of PKL in many ways. See the Downloads section below.

In EPKL, each layout variant (a combo of layout type, keyboard type, ergo mods and locale specific mappings) from plain Colemak to your favourite locale variant of Colemak-CAW[eD](!) uses its own folder with at least a layout.ini file in it and usually at least some state images for the on-screen help image. In the old PKL all dead key and Extend images and whatnot would be there too, but these may also be elsewhere now.

EPKL has separate help images for each shift state and dead key (which is quite a lot of images as there are 19 different dead keys!) as well as for Extend, that activate when you need them. You can set your own hotkey to show/hide these, or use the default Ctrl+Shift+1. The help image will jump around your screen if you mouse over it, trying to stay out of the way.

Due to the non-modular nature of EPKL and the plethora of possibilities, not all locale/ergo combinations are premade. EPKL makes it easier than it used to be though! There's a tutorial in the repository README.

PKL[eD] was tested by Viper who is likely the world's fastest Colemak typist these days, and according to him it works without trouble at typing speeds of at least 150 WPM, probably 200+ WPM!

As described in the main Big Bag topic, the Colemak[eD] AltGr mappings have been implemented similarly for various platforms. Although the underlying technology varies, they should work almost the same for XKB and EPKL for instance. For some locale variants in particular, you may have to add your own or ask me for help.

The Colemak [edition DreymaR] layout, using different lv3-4 mappings from Shai's default Colemak.
Shown on an ANSI keyboard with dead key emphasis (golden) and "FingerShui" color-coded proposed fingering.

The Extend mappings using CapsLock (or another key of your choice) as a modifier for all sorts of cool and powerful key/mapping combos, originated with Autohotkey and PKL. I'm very happy with it and consider it a Life Hack on par with Colemak itself! This is one heavy reason I want a EPKL implementation of my layout on any Windows PC I work on instead of settling for just a plain Colemak install without the power of Extend.

EPKL has a richly functional Extend implementation. It includes sideways wheel scrolling which the Linux version lacks (it has mousing on/off and a Multi key instead). WheelLeft is mapped to the ISO VK_102 key, so if ANSI board users want it they'll have to put it elsewhere. One might forgo one Esc key and put WheelLeft/Right on the bracket keys for instance.
