Remember PRSA has no paid staff. We are a volunteer run organization. The only way we can have sailboat races is for members to pitch in to help organize and run the races.
We need more than just skippers to run the races. We hope (and expect) skippers to recruit crew, family, and friends to come out with them or to help on the RC boats.
For the regular season, we have about 128 slots to be filled by 40 skippers – more than 3 per skipper – if all 40 skippers pitch in.
Can we enforce this? No. All we can do is ask everyone to help and if we don’t fill the slots by the evening before the scheduled races, we simply have to cancel.
Notes: In past years, we gave regatta chairs 2 slot credits and PROs 2 slot credits per day due to the added work required in those roles. However, in our judgement we cannot afford to continue that practice. Last year we also had an equipment checker who is familiar with the power boats and can be sure they are ready for use. We have not included that role in the above calculations.
We have 40 skipper-boats available to fill the 128 slots in the regular season.
