Hello,

I am a graduate student currently considering using POSYDON to model the evolution of low-mass compact binaries. However, I noticed that the default setup of POSYDON primarily covers evolutionary grids for massive stars.

I would like to ask whether POSYDON provides functionality to extend or incorporate user-generated grids in order to support binary evolution in other mass ranges. If such functionality exists, could you please provide some guidance on how to properly implement it within the POSYDON framework?

Thanks

Jayanand,

Great to hear you're interested in using POSYDON. You are correct that the code and grids are currently designed for high mass stars. Our primary mass limit extends down to 4 solar masses, but if you'd like to model stars less-massive than this, you are correct that you will need to run your own grids and import them. We have designed POSYDON to be able to handle user-imported grids (see documentation here), but we should coordinate, as there are likely some specific formatting requirements (e.g., specific output columns) that you will need to make sure your grids follow.

To get started, I suggest you make a post on our GitHub discussions page and we'll work with you to figure it out for your use case.
