Post Natyam Collective - July 2007 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

We recently learned that Medha Yodh, amazing teacher and performing artist of Bharata Natyam, passed away. Medha was a significant mentor and inspiration for Shyamala in her own dance journey and had an large impact on Sandra even though her encounters with Medha were brief. We wish to honor her passion for life, her dedication to dance, and her innovative approaches to teaching.  A disciple of Balasaraswati, Medha taught Bharata Natyam at UCLA for 18 years.  As we too work on our performing and teaching, we hope to follow in her ground breaking footsteps.  The following link is her obituary in the LA Times.

Sandra and Shyamala attend the first National South Asian-American Theatre Conference.

In summer of 2006, Silk Road Theatre Project was one of 60 theatre companies to attend "The Next Big Bang," the first national Asian American theatre conference held in Los Angeles, California.  One outcome of the meeting was the nomination of Silk Road Theatre Project to organize and host the first national South Asian-American theatre conference at its facility in Chicago, Illinois.  Silk Road Theatre Project was selected because of its central location, its success in presenting outstanding theatrical productions, and the fact that it occupies a permanent theatre complex in Chicago's theatre district.  It is the only multicultural theatre to have a permanent venue in Chicago.
