About the talk: Shri Mahesh Sharma will share his journey and vast experience from decades of social service in 1400+ villages of Jhabua district. He will share his insights on tribal traditions and the need to preserve them in a fast moving world. He will talk about the importance of community involvement in carrying out development work. For budding social entrepreneurs and those who wish to bring change on the ground, his experience will come on handy. He will also speak about the role of youth in nation building. About the speaker: Shri Mahesh Sharma is a grass-root worker who has been working in the tribal villages of Jhabua since the past 25 years. He co-founded an organization called ‘Shivganga’ which revived the tribal practices of community engagement for sustainable development. His efforts solved the water scarcity problems in hundreds of villages in and around Jhabua. Living in resonance with mother earth has been a part of tribal culture since ages. He brought back the idea of ‘Matavan” (i.e. treating forests as a mother who sustains the ecosystem) which resulted in large scale plantation of trees. Currently, he is also working on developing bamboo products through tribal involvement thereby imparting them skills and ensuring their economic empowerment. He was awarded the fourth highest civilian honor Padma Shri in 2019 for his exemplary contribution.
