There's a reference to the styles.css file in the head of the Clean
Theme, but I can't find any way to access the file in the Posterous
interface.

I can review the entries in styles.css through the Web Developer
Toolbar and Firebug, but I can't make any permanent changes to the
file.

Suggestions? Is there something obvious I'm missing?

You can't edit that file, however you can override them in your own
style tags in your own theme. Use !important if need be.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the quick response. I should have said:

I made a copy of Clean Theme and saved it under a different theme
name. Now I want to edit the styles.css with my own changes. How do I
make that happen?

Or how can I use Clean Theme as a basis for my own style tags in my
own theme? When you say "override them in your own theme" what do you
mean? Create a new styles.css which is uploaded? And where is that
file uploaded?

I read your response to Medulla on Google Groups, where you
recommended he get the CSS to edit and make the change. How is the
change to the Obox theme different than the change to a copy of the
Clean Theme? My apologies, but the structure of the styles in Clean
Theme is not very intuitive to me.

I've worked with CSS for many years, so I'm familiar with changes I
can make. I assumed I would only need to access the styles.css to make
changes. Is there some quick summary of how themes are edited? Or am I
missing something on the site?

Copy the link to the style.css and paste the address into a new window.  The CSS will be there.  Copy and paste the CSS into the appropriate place in your html.  That's how you can edit the entire CSS file.  But if you just have small changes, then do what Gary said.
