Hi,

Is there any way to disable or change a keyboard shortcut within Postbox?

There's one keyboard shortcut that's driving me nuts. During office hours I'm a heavy user of Microsoft Outlook since it's my employer's standard software - but when I get home from work and start handling my private emails, I quite often hit Ctrl-Q accidentally because I'm used to hitting that combination for marking emails as read (and I've turned off the automatic "mark as read" functionality, because I don't want my email client to mark all my emails as read when I'm just actually browsing them and not reading them - I only mark something as read when I can allow myself to just forget about it entirely).

I'm running Postbox on Win7, and ever since from my early childhood I've been using Windows-based PCs, so even if Ctrl-Q might be a common shortcut (?) for closing programs in the Mac-world, it's really causing havoc for my email reading as I'm not used to having Ctrl-Q be a shortcut for closing a program.

So, long story short, is there any way to turn off a certain keyboard shortcut or change it to some other keyboard combination? For example, in a Windows-world it would make more sense to close a program with Alt-F4 instead of Ctrl-Q. Even a confirmation dialog "Do you really want to exit?" would be helpful, so that Postbox wouldn't just close (for example, I might have multiple emails open, and reopening them all would require me to remember where I was in my email queue and what I was doing).

Thanks!

You could look at using KeyRemap4MacBookControllerMate, or the built in OSX key remapping. I use KeyRemap4MacBook for a bunch of stuff, and while its a little bit confusing to customize its worth figuring out.

It's been a while since the original post, but I'm a reasonably new user to Postbox. I would love for this change to be done though. Similar to Hopealohikaarme I also constantly use Outlook at work. In Outlook CTRL+Q is to mark as read. So when using Postbox I keep closing Postbox instead of marking as read.

Really hoping there is a solution to this.

@David, we are using Windows and want to keep using the CTRL+Q option and not use mappers as that will be system wide.

No easy answer, but you might google "keyboard shortcut remapping windows" and see if you can find an background app that will do it for you.
