Postbox on High Sierra--lagging

Is there anyone running Postbox an older Mac? I have MacBook Pro (2012)
and High Sierra.
Sometimes PB works fine, but at other times it becomes glacially slow.
For example, if it is running in the background, and I want to bring it
to the foreground, it might take 1-3 minutes for the program to appear.
It will also often freeze up while working in the program, and take .5-3
min. to unfreeze. It always recovers eventually, but takes time.
I have the program linked to 16 e-mail accounts, many of them with huge
amounts of messages on the server.
I wonder if anyone else has run into such problems?
