Looks like Thunderbird

I've noticed that quite a few menus and such have a Thunderbird look to them...maybe just laid out a bit differently.

This leads me to be concerned about the adaptive junk mail process.  The menu for setting it up in the account's properties looks exactly like the Thunderbird menus.  I don't know if the "behind-the-scenes" process is different, but this is VERY disconcerting to me.

Thunderbird's adaptive process has turned out to be crap.  No matter how many times I tell it specific emails ARE NOT junk, it still sends them to the Junk folder.  I'm just wondering if I'm going to have the same issue with Postbox...if it has copied TB's process.  This is the main reason I'm leaving TB.  Do I have to give up on PB, too, and go to The Bat!?

I haven't used the Junk spam filter much in PB.
But on other systems the public spam black lists seem to override the Bayes learning mechanism.

Perhaps you can white list certain email addresses in PB?

Well, PB was forked from TB, so there is much the same there. Until a few years ago, the profiles were compatible, including the config editor. If you don't like TB, you won't like PB. The junk challenge with both of them is that you must not just flag junk; you also need to frequently flag what is good. And that's not intuitive, I agree.

One more comment regarding PB and TB: TB is undergoing  a major redesign that is intended to be released in mid-summer, and then the two will no longer have the same look. I stopped using PB because they acknowledge a serious bug with office365, yet have refused the past two years to fix it.

What have you been using instead?

Who, me? I use TB. I have a registered copy of TheBat, but it seems complex beyond all reason. I like some features of PB, but TB has a flexibility that I like, and the addons I use aren't available elsewhere. If interested, there is a nice fork of TB called Betterbird, at betterbird.eu. It is a 100% lookalike, but supposedly has fewer bugs.

I also bought The Bat!, but, like you said, it's a b!tch to work with.

As for telling PB/TB what is NOT junk, as far as I can tell, you can only do that it if is flagged as junk.  If I select a non-junk message that isn't flagged as junk, I don't see anything to say it's NOT junk.  Am I not seeing something?

And thanks for the Betterbird suggestion.  Maybe I'll give that one a try.

Thanks, all!

To my knowledge, how you describe it is the only way.  I've never seen a different way other than seeing something in the junk folder and then you have the button to tell PB that it's not junk.

There should be a junk/not junk button on toolbar, although it may have been reset.

There is.  It is a yellow circle with a black ! in the middle.  It says "Junk" UNLESS you are in the junk folder.  Then the same button transforms to "Not Junk".
I believe S Tyler's point was directed to someone's comment saying it was just as important to tell PB what messages are not junk as to tell it what is junk.  I believe he took that to mean there was a way in the inbox to tell BP which messages were not junk and he was pointing out there is no such method.  I'm guessing that because that is exactly what I took the comment to mean as well.  The only way is to go to PB and then hit the "Not Junk" button for messages selected which is kinda obvious.

on my last sentence, I meant to say the only way is to go to the Junk folder and then hit the "Not Junk"

Interesting this thread just came up....   Earlier before seeing this I sent in a BUG Report about the Junk function not working and I believe in corresponds to when they added the yellow circle.

I think it's great that PB indicates an email as Junk.  But when you drag the same email to the Bulk folder over and over again and PB does not learn it is junk, that's a problem.  PB does not seem to be "learning" what is Junk any more.  And I've also noticed that a lot of "types" of messages that would automatically ended up in the Bulk folder no longer do.  Some get flagged with the yellow circle( whoopee!), but it is apparent that the Junk/Spam feature is broken.

Curious about the over all health of PB....  Noticed when I went to put in the BUG Report that Windows 11 has still not been added as an OS option.  We're talking well over a year since it's release and most Supports sites started adding it months before that for any Beta/Early Release user.

Olen, you got my meaning exactly.  I just saw the same thing in TB and PB saying to mark something as non-spam if it wasn't spam.  It is very obvious, but it also made it sound like you should pick good messages and tell PB/TB they're good.

Anyway, that point really doesn't matter since it sounds like PB will eventually start having the same problems as TB if it was hacked from TB.  Just like Pete said, I expect I'll be marking the same messages as junk over and over and trying to get the program to understand that something else ISN'T spam over and over.
