Community Solar Workshop
Solar Simplified: An Introduction to solar energy and the community bulk-purchase model
Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 7-9 pm
Eliot Hall, First Unitarian Church, 569 S 1300 E, Salt Lake City
Here is the opportunity for you to learn
more about solar energy for your home. And a new, exciting initiative
underway at First Unitarian Church is designed to get BIG discounts for you and your friends on solar energy via
bulk-purchase. If we can have a large number of "solar homes" and we can organize a "group bid" system, we can reduce the costs for installation as well. The idea is to do what is possible now to get solar to be reasonably priced.
Have you ever
thought about putting solar on your home but don’t know where (or have
time) to start? Are you interested in investing in solar but feel the
price is still too high? Do you struggle to locate trusted, verifiable
solar information and solar installers in Utah? If you answered yes to
any of these questions, the good news is that you are not alone!
Imagine what might happen if lots of us who want to “go solar” were to come
together to collectively make a big bulk solar purchase and negotiate a
volume discount with a trusted local installer. What if you had experienced solar folks working for you to make sure the installation worked and the contracting prices were the best you could get. What if members of the
greater Salt Lake environmental community decided to join in and “go
solar” as well? Sound intriguing?
As it turns out, this model, known as the community bulk-purchase solar model,
is cropping up in communities across the country as a viable and
creative way to make solar more financially attractive and simple for
more people. First Unitarian Church and Environmental Ministry are
interested in replicating this successful model within our church,
neighborhood, and our greater SLC environmental community, and we hope
to jump-start this effort. To learn more and
provide input, please attend this community solar workshop.
Hope to see you at the workshop!
